Canadian airline WestJet has agreed to purchase an additional 42 Boeing Max aircraft, along with options for 22 more, the carrier announced Thursday. This order is in addition to the remaining 23 Max orders and extends the airline’s fleet growth plans to 2028.
Of the 65 planes now on order, “at least 50 will be 737-10 aircraft,” the largest model in the Max family, according to WestJet. The 737-10 can cover 99 percent of the world’s single-aisle routes, can reduce fuel use and carbon emissions by at least 20 percent per seat compared with previous generations, and has a 50 percent smaller noise footprint than the airplanes it replaces, according to the carrier.
