Weather Impact Alert Sunday for a fall Nor’easter

WASHINGTON — The WUSA9 Weather Team has issued a Weather Impact Alert for Sunday  Rain will move across the area all day. A storm system will develop off of the North Carolina coast Saturday. We will have some showers in the D.C. area Saturday but we can keep our outdoor plans. As the storm moves up the coast Sunday plan on periods of rain and showers.  Areas north and west of DC like Hagerstown, Frederick and Western Loudoun County may not get as much rain, but will still experience the breezy winds. The heaviest rain will be along and east of I 95. Winds will pick up too. Northeast winds will gust over 30 mph Sunday, with some gusts potentially as high as 45 to 60 mph near open water. With a high pressure system to our north and the developing storm moving up the coast we will see some beach erosion thanks to that persistent northeast flow.   We’ll also have coastal flooding in DC and along the waterways around Alexandria, Charles, and St. Mary’s.
