(KRON) — A popular Christmas carol once said, “I’m dreaming of a white Christmas.” But is there a song that yearns for rain on the holiday instead of snow? If there was, any San Francisco resident wishing for that got their Christmas wish during the overnight hours on Dec. 25.
San Francisco, along with other Bay Area cities, got plenty of rain and then some.
A little after 2:30 a.m. on Christmas, roads started to flood as rain profusely came down in San Francisco. Dashcam video (watch above) shows flooding on I-280 northbound in San Francisco near the Alemany Boulevard onramp. Around the 0:30 mark, water is seen shooting up to a vehicle’s windshield as it drives past the massive puddle of water on the highway. Several cars were seen with their emergency blinkers on, stopped in the middle of the flooded highway.
In addition to wet weather, strong winds also paid San Francisco a Christmas Day visit. Video (around the 1:29 mark) shows a downed tree on Guerrero Street.
At least 23 downed trees were reported by 7:30 a.m. on Christmas, according to the San Francisco Fire Department. The storms caused thousands of San Francisco residents to lose power at some point during the day.

Water bursts out of manhole on 30th and Guerrero streets in San Francisco due to heavy rainfall overnight on Christmas Day.
Around the 0:49 mark, water was seen bursting out of a manhole on 30th and Guerrero streets. That is likely due to the intense rainfall, as storm drains and sewer systems can be overwhelmed in extreme weather.
The National Weather Service (NWS) did not have rainfall totals available for just Dec. 25.
The weather agency did, however, announce rainfall totals from Dec. 19 to Dec. 26. According to NWS, San Francisco received just under 4 inches of rain (3.98) Guerneville in Sonoma County recorded 21.80 inches of rain, the most over that seven-day period, according to the NWS. Parts of Oakland and in the San Leandro area received about 6 inches of rain.
The rain is expected to continue into New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
