Fresh from their successful headline UK tour last month, Wasia Project, composed of siblings William G. Hardy and Olivia Hardy, unveils their latest single “Is This What Love Is?” as their first musical offering of 2024. Fans can stream the song here: wasiaproject.ffm.to/isthiswhatloveis

This genre-blending single delves into a universal theme, offering something both exhilarating and comforting, while maintaining the momentum from their recent releases. With its cinematic anthem-like quality, “Is This What Love Is?” showcases Wasia Project’s trademark balance of subtlety and grandeur, solidifying their position as an emerging artist set to define the sound of a generation.

Speaking about the single, Wasia Project shares, “‘Is This What Love Is?’ describes the experience of uncontrollable emotions, like a car that’s going too fast with someone else behind the wheel. It questions sadness and doubt in all types of love, and the drama that comes with caring deeply for things.”

Following “Remember When,” a poignant ballad released late last year, the exquisitely moving “My Lover Is Sleeping,” accompanied by a dreamlike animated visual by Patrick Atkins, and indie-pop gem “Petals on the Moon,” “Is This What Love Is?” adds to the band’s repertoire of hits. The duo’s breakout hit “ur so pretty,” featured in Netflix’s LGBTQI+ drama series Heartstopper, further solidified their place in the music scene.

Formed in 2019, Wasia Project’s diverse British-Asian background and classical training inspire their global approach to pop music, seamlessly blending styles and influences across genres. Their music combines hushed bedroom DIY with classical intellect, and spiky disco with freewheeling jazz, showcasing their deep knowledge of various musical styles. Olivia’s vocals, reminiscent of Rickie Lee Jones and Joni Mitchell, complement the band’s melodic complexity and heartfelt lyricism, drawing inspiration from artists like Mitski, Weyes Blood, Angel Olsen, and Aldous Harding.

After completing a sold-out 7-date UK headline tour, Wasia Project will support Tom Odell on his upcoming EU dates and embark on their debut US tour supporting Icelandic jazz sensation Laufey this April, followed by two headline dates in LA & NY. “Is This What Love Is?” marks the beginning of a new era for the band, promising much more to come.
