Virgin Atlantic in early 2023 will join the SkyTeam global airline alliance, the carrier announced Tuesday, giving the carrier’s loyalty program members additional opportunities to earn points and access to a network of more than 750 airport lounges across six continents. It will be the alliance’s only U.K. member airline.

Virgin Atlantic Silver Card holders will be recognized as SkyTeam Elite Members, while Gold Card members will be recognized as Elite Plus, according to the carrier.

The carrier already has a transatlantic joint venture with SkyTeam members Delta Air Lines and Air France-KLM, and codeshare agreements are in place with members Aeromexico and Middle East Airlines, according to Virgin Atlantic, adding that interline agreements with all SkyTeam members already are in place.

Additional SkyTeam members include Aerolineas Argentinas, Air Europa, China Airlines, China Eastern, Czech Airlines, Garuda Indonesia, ITA Airways, Kenya Airways, Korean Air, Saudia, Tarom, Vietnam Airlines and XiamenAir.
