United Airlines and Emirates on Sept. 14 will expand their codeshare agreement to include nine destinations in Mexico, Emirates announced Tuesday. Mexico is the first country outside the United States to be added to the carriers’ codeshare network.
Emirates customers flying into Chicago or Houston will be able to connect via United to Cancun, Cozumel, Monterrey, Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, San Jose del Cabo, Leon in Guanajuato and Queretaro on a single ticket. Emirates also flies to Mexico City, and the codeshare extends to each carrier’s flights to the Mexican capital.
Baggage check-through is available for travel out of Mexico. International customers flying to Mexico on Emirates or United codeshare flights must clear their baggage with U.S. Customs at the first point of entry in either Chicago or Houston, according to Emirates.
With the addition of the new destinations in Mexico, the codeshare network now includes 134 destinations, accessible from United’s gateways in the U.S., while nearly 100 additional points across the U.S., Canada, Central and South America and the Caribbean are available from an interline agreement, according to Emirates.
The carriers announced their partnership one year ago.
