“The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” That mantra is paramount to Lab Group, the virtuosic bass music outfit founded by PotionsSupertask and the late CharlestheFirst.

Joining forces with tiedye ky and Player Dave, they’ve released a pair of new singles, a true testament to the power of collaboration, friendship and creative exploration. The new songs mark Lab Group’s first original music since 2021’s debut EP, Lab Group I.

“Zoom In” is a wonky banger that rattles the brain with wonky left-field sounds and all-encompassing bass. Deep yet lively, the track yields a filthy listening experience before it winds down to a mellow coda, where a touching vocal sample and soft chimes bring the arrangement home.

“Dipping” takes a softer approach, showcasing Lab Group’s versatility. The ethereal track features vocals from fashion designer and artist Ruku, whose haunting lyricism floats atop a languid beat.

The emotion here is palpable, lending to a passionate and goosebump-inducing listen.

According to Lab Group’s website, a brand-new album, Lab Group 2, is in the works. They’ve recently played sets at Sound Haven and Secret Dreams, among others, and are gearing up for performances at Rezz Rocks, North Coast Music Festival and Suwannee Hulaween.
