(KRON) – The Bay Area food scene has garnered national attention, and now two eateries have been noted as food magazine Bon Appétit’s best new restaurants.
Despite the recent challenges the restaurant has faced after being vandalized, Minnie Bell’s Soul Movement has made quite an impression with food critics.
Bon Appétit raved about the eatery’s cuisine, including its “gooey mac and cheese, candied yams varnished with sugary syrup, and baskets of that exceptional fried chicken.”
The once kiosk eatery is now a brick-and-mortar in San Francisco’s Fillmore District. According to the website, Chef Fernay McPherson combines soulful flavors with the warmth of the South.
The soul food spot’s starters include fried mac & cheese balls and chicken wings, varying from honey hot, classic and BBQ.
Newsweek ranks Healdsburg as one of the best towns for food enthusiasts
For patrons who like something sweet after a meal, banana pudding and caramel cake are on the dessert menu.
One of the newest Michelin Guide honorees was also named one of the best new restaurants. Sun Moon Studio calls its cuisine farmer and procedure-driven. The West Oakland restaurant said it buys from a bounty of local producers.
Bon Appétit says the multi-course meal has much to look forward to, including Taiwanese sausage with homemade brioche. Egg custard tart, bonito, salmon roe and San Franisco Bay halibut can be found on Sun Moon’s menu.
Minnie Bell’s is located at 1375 Fillmore Street in San Francisco, and Sun Moon Studio’s address is 1940 Union St., Ste. 21 in Oakland.
