Two Long Island law firms have combined.

Forchelli Deegan Terrana, a law firm in Uniondale, has announced that the attorneys and staff of Mineola-based Koeppel Martone & Leistman have joined the firm.  The move bolsters FDT’s position in the real estate tax law space.

KML Senior Partner Donald Leistman will continue as a senior partner at FDT and co-chair FDT’s Tax Certiorari practice group with John Terrana.

The merger marks the “largest expansion in FDT’s history,” according to a press release about the combined firms.

“Throughout the years, I have worked both with and against members of KML. I have always been impressed by their professionalism and the quality of their work. I am excited to have them join us,” Terrana said in a statement.

Founded in 1963, KML  established itself as a large tax certiorari practice in New York State, counseling clients on real estate tax matters. The law firm has secured more than $1 billion dollars in real estate tax refunds and savings for commercial real estate clients with office buildings, industrial parks, shopping malls, apartment complexes and other properties, according to the press release.

“We always strive to deliver the best results for our real estate tax clients. But now, we can greatly enhance our services by collaborating with the FDT attorneys across several different practice areas,” Leistman said in a statement.

Combined, the firm will comprise 150 attorneys and staff, including a tax certiorari practice group. Other practice groups include land use and zoning, IDA benefits and government Incentives, and environmental and litigation.

Jeffrey Forchelli, FDT’s chairman and co-managing partner, said the firm has been focused on strategic growth and expansion, enhancing services to clients

“We are very excited to be joined by the attorneys and staff of Koeppel Martone & Leistman, L.L.C.,” Forchelli said in a statement. “We will make each other better, and all of our clients will benefit greatly as a result. The future is bright.”
