Trump calls on Justice Department to investigate Jeffrey Epstein’s relationship with political and other figures

President Donald Trump said Friday that he will ask U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate Jeffrey Epstein’s involvement with former President Bill Clinton and other prominent Democrats and financial institutions.

“Now that the Democrats are using the Epstein Hoax, involving Democrats, not Republicans, to try and deflect from their disastrous SHUTDOWN, and all of their other failures, I will be asking A.G. Pam Bondi, and the Department of Justice, together with our great patriots at the FBI, to investigate Jeffrey Epstein’s involvement and relationship with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, J.P. Morgan, Chase, and many other people and institutions, to determine what was going on with them, and him,” Trump said in a lengthy post on his social media platform Truth Social, adding, “This is another Russia, Russia, Russia Scam, with all arrows pointing to the Democrats.”

NBC News has reached out to representatives for Clinton, Hoffman, Summers and JPMorgan Chase for comment. None of the people Trump named his post have been accused of wrongdoing in the Epstein case.

JPMorgan Chase reached a $75 million settlement with the U.S. Virgin Islands in 2023 over a lawsuit that accused the bank of facilitating Jeffrey Epstein’s sex-trafficking enterprise for years, NBC News previously reported. The settlement did not “involve admissions of liability,” the bank said at the time, adding that it regretted any association with Epstein and would not have done business with him “if it believed he was using the bank in any way to commit heinous crimes.”

The post comes after thousands of emails from the Epstein estate were released by the House Oversight Committee this week, including many that referenced Trump’s connections to the convicted sex offender, who died in jail while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges in 2019.

In one of the emails, Epstein said said Trump “knew about the girls,” but didn’t directly accuse him of any wrongdoing. In another, he said Trump had been to his home “many times” but “never got a massage.”
