As we approach the final months of the 2025 hurricane season, the tropics are currently calm, but activity could begin to pick up next week.Up to this point in the season, most systems have developed in the Atlantic. However, a shift is expected in late October to early November, with increased activity anticipated in the Caribbean and Gulf. Model predictions show a system forming in the Caribbean next week. The American GFS model shows a system forming in the Caribbean and curving closely near Florida, while the European model shows a similar trajectory but predicts a weaker system. Other model runs show the system curving out to sea or Mexico. The Weather Prediction Center forecasts a 40% chance of potential development in the Caribbean next week. The area has not been highlighted by the National Hurricane Center for anything short-term, but it’s still worth monitoring. Currently, the National Hurricane Center is monitoring Tropical Storm Lorenzo, which is not affecting any land and is expected to dissipate by Thursday.So far, 12 named storms have formed this season, along with four hurricanes.
