RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Technology and generational differences are creating new pools for dating.

“Honestly, I was on Hinge for a day, and I met someone, and we started dating,” said Hunter Stricklin.

He isn’t the only finding success on the apps. We found a new couple at Vivo Ristorante in Raleigh, who found love on the apps two months ago. CBS 17 also spoke with another couple with some longevity.

“I’d like to say I’m old fashioned, but I am in a three-year relationship. Valentine’s Day is our anniversary,” said Tyra Little.

A 2023 Singles in America study by Match.com found 6% of singles turned to artificial intelligence for help with their dating life. The study also found 43% of those people used AI to actually craft their profiles.

“I have heard of this, but I got my female friends to help me,” said Stricklin.

We also found everyone isn’t on board for dating on apps.

“I think dating can be organic and natural, you just have to be patient,” said Lexi Medlin.

But Millennials and Gen Z users aren’t the only ones looking to find their new boo.

“I actually divorced in 1998 and I turned to dating apps. I put in a specific age on the app, but I was getting people 15 years younger than me trying to date. That was just too young for me,” said Phyllis Green.

But of course, some dating app users have friends hoping for those TV moments.

“I am sure everyone wants a romance story about making eye contact across the bar or church you know,” said Stricklin.

Dating experts also say online dating can be a great way to meet new people, but the goal should be to get off the chats and actually go on dates.
