The mini tote bags went viral last year, so much so that they were resold for hundreds of dollars online.
WASHINGTON — Trader Joe’s is ringing in the spooky season with Halloween-themed mini tote bags.
The grocery store chain is releasing the tote bags in new colors on Wednesday, Oct. 8, a Trader Joe’s spokesperson confirmed in an email statement. The viral bags, which were sold in pastel colors for Easter, will be sold for $2.99 in purple, all black and all orange.
Additionally, there will be a multi-color option that features black, purple, green and orange. The new tote bags will be available nationwide at Trader Joe’s stores.
“If customers have any questions about product availability, they can ask any Crew Member in their neighborhood store,” a Trader Joe’s spokesperson said.
Trader Joe’s describes the tote bags as “ideal for smaller shopping trips —the kind where you’re just picking up something for lunch, or grabbing those items you forgot the first time around.”
Last year, the launch of the mini tote bags spiraled as videos shared on social media showed crowds of customers waiting to get their hands on the highly-coveted tote bags. The bags were originally released in red, blue, green and yellow.
“Our Mini Canvas Tote Bags certainly sold more quickly than we anticipated,” Nakia Rohde, a spokesperson for Trader Joe’s, said at the time. “Before we had the opportunity to promote them in any way, customers across the country found them at their neighborhood Trader Joe’s.”
Soon after the Easter collection dropped, the spring colors had already made their way to third-party reseller sites like eBay, with one pink bag listed at $999.99.
Just last month, Trader Joe’s also released a mini-insulated tote bags. The bags came in peach and blue colors and were roughly the size of a lunchbox.
