Townhouse fire in Loudoun County causes utility disruptions and traffic delays

Loudoun County fire crews responded to a townhouse fire in Sterling, Va., early this morning. No reported injuries.

STERLING, Va. — Firefighters worked to put out a townhouse fire in Sterling early Friday morning, causing utility disruptions in the area.

At 4:30 a.m., Loudoun County fire and rescue responded to the 20000 block of Riptide Square, where a townhouse was reported on fire. That is not far from Lowes Island Elementary School. 

Crews quickly arrived on scene and were able to put out a majority of the fire. Police have not yet said if there were any injuries or how the blaze started.

Due to the fire, authorities say that residents in Riptide Square may experience utility service disruptions. Law enforcement and fire and rescue will remain on the scene for an extended period of time. 

As of 5:22 a.m., Riptide Square is closed from Whitewater Drive to Whirlpool Square. Authorities have not yet said when the road will open again. Loudon County police said for drivers to expect significant delays around Riptide Square at Whitewater Drive. Drivers are encouraged to follow police direction and proceed with caution in the area.
