When it’s hot outside, you need your house to be cool and airy, so it doesn’t trap moisture or keep the heat in. But as the weather turns chilly, you naturally want to keep your home warm and inviting. Thankfully, it doesn’t take much to make your home appealing for the winter.

Here are some simple ways to make your house cosier as we head into the colder months.

Use natural materials to decorate

If the colder weather sees you spending more time indoors, you can bring some of the outdoors inside with decor ideas inspired by nature.

Wood furniture, accessories, and plants are all great for creating a natural vibe. For additional layers of natural texture, add accessories made from rattan, leather, antique metals, and linen fabrics.

Add throw pillows & blankets

One of the simplest and least expensive ways to create a cosy winter home is by using throw blankets and cushions.

Replace your linen or cotton pillows and throws with thick, sweater-like fabric. Faux fur is another brilliant option for creating a luxurious, wintry look – and it’s also going to help you stay warm!

Warm up floors with rugs

Waking up to ice-cold flooring in winter is no fun. Rugs are the perfect alternative to the excess of fluffy socks and slippers.

In addition to keeping your toes toasty, rugs help to insulate your home. This is particularly true if you buy thick or shaggy rugs. Getting both actual warmth and the impression of warmth from one item is a win-win situation.

In small spaces such as next to your bed, go for a runner to keep things in proportion. Small rugs are also easier to wash, making them ideal for high traffic areas too.

Concentrate on lighting

Winter is notorious for its long evenings and dark mornings, and the lower light levels can really affect your mood. Even if it’s gloomy and chilly outside, you can chase away sadness by using the power of lighting to turn your home into a cosy, warm refuge.

Soft, diffused light works best for generating a cosy, inviting ambience. Globe lights are a good choice here, as they evenly distribute light to create a soft, warm glow. Use them to cosy up a living room, or add warmth to a bedroom.

You can also use pendant lights with brushed brass or gold embellishments to complement warm lamps and make a room feel even cosier.

Create a cosy corner

Create a corner where you can sit and snuggle up without any tech. You could have your favourite books nearby, some candles, and even a cordless phone. Being able to have long conversations on the phone with loved ones without being distracted by other things on a smartphone is a great way to relax. Research experts in cordless phones to get the best ones.

Have these tips for creating a cosy winter home inspired you to get your house ready for winter?
