As it does each month, Circana has released its latest monthly sales report, shining a light on how the US video game industry is performing from a business perspective. Sales for October 2023 are down compared to last year, and Circana said that’s attributable in part to how Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II was released in October, while Modern Warfare III came out in November. Total sales slid by 5%, declining to $4.036 billion.
For games specifically, sales dropped by 4% to $3.562 billion, a figure that covers physical and digital full-game sales, as well as microtransactions and subscription revenue for console, mobile, PC, and VR. Some companies, like Nintendo, do not share digital sales numbers with Circana, however.
