Back in her reputation era in 2017-2018, Taylor Swift was mostly staying off social media because of both hate trains and the idea that her art should speak for itself when her words get twisted. But come on, it’s Taylor – she couldn’t just stay away from fans! So she brought us a solution in the form of The Swift Life: her very own social media app for Swifties to talk, interact with her, and even earn cute Taymojis of her music videos, her cats, and more.

The premise was pretty simple: fans could post and interact with each other, earn Swift Sends on their posts to send them to Taylor’s personal feed, and unlock different emojis as they spent time on the app. Most of the time, it was a wholesome space to hang out with fellow fans!

But when Taylor wasn’t around, things got pretty hectic on The Swift Life. From lyric spamming, to heated debates, to imagining folkloric figures as Swifties, there was a whole lot going on at once. The Swift Life shut down in early 2019 before the Lover era started, but thankfully, some fans documented certain posts that haven’t left our minds since.

Here are some of our favorite cursed moments from the Swift Life era!

Snow On The Beach School

There’s nothing quite like the rush of excitement we used to get in elementary school when we’d go to sleep with our pajamas inside-out in the hopes of getting a snow day, then woke up to the news that school was closed. But once you get older and graduate, that’s not really an option anymore. Hey, at least there’s no school anyway!

“I can’t breathe without you…”

Remember when you first joined Swiftie Twitter or Tumblr and none of the internet lingo made sense? That happened plenty of times on The Swift Life, but this response to someone saying “I can’t breathe” instead of “I can’t stop laughing” really stuck with us.

Paul Bunyan’s Swiftie Era

Coincidentally, Paul Bunyan and Taylor Swift both made appearances on Phineas & Ferb at some point in the late 2000s-early 2010s, and the folkloric lumberjack is still a Swiftie to this day! But one song apparently gives him the ick: ‘Out Of The Woods.’ At least he still recognizes what an amazing track it is and joins the ranks of some iconic famous Swifties.

‘The Great War’

Swifties have truly fought in the trenches for Taylor time and time again, and some have taken that to the next level by appointing themselves as leaders of the Swiftie Defense League. We have to admit though, any Swiftie who was online to fight against Taylor’s original hate wave in 2012 definitely deserves some medals! Certainly one of the most dedicated, passionate fandoms who will always be there for their fave.

“Lay the table with the…” Banned Sandwiches?

And, finally, one post that didn’t even last long on the app! We’re not really sure why a half-eaten PB&J would be a violation of TSL’s guidelines, but somehow it was. Maybe someone on Taylor’s team was allergic to peanuts?
