SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Friday is an exciting day at the Basketball Hall of Fame, where a brand new exhibit is set to open, focused on the NBA’s most-storied franchise: the Boston Celtics.
The Hall of Fame specializes in procuring artifacts and memorabilia that tell the story of the game’s history, from its invention in Springfield through the modern day, but Hall leadership says they have taken it to a new level with this exhibit, known as “The Vault.”
The Vault will be an evolving exhibit, hosting the Hall’s most incredible artifacts, and will focus on the rich history and culture of the Celtics, to the delight of home-state fans.
Friday, we will get an up-close look at game-worn jerseys, championship rings, and even the original 1981 Larry O’Brien Trophy; all illustrated with long-lost footage from throughout the team’s history.
Special tours will begin at 9:30 A.M., led by Celtics legends, including 1981 Finals MVP Cedric Maxwell, who will cut the ribbon and officially open the literal bank vault door, alongside Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll and the director of state tourism.
22News will have a local exclusive look at the grand opening and inside the exhibit, but if you want to see it for yourself, the doors will open to the public at 1:00 Friday afternoon.
