“My wife told me that somebody said something like, ‘The three things you’re going to be certain of are death, taxes, and that Jeremy Strong will be wearing brown,’” Jeremy Strong muses in his the latest GQ cover story, written by Gabriella Paiella. And if last night’s premiere for the fourth and final season of HBO’s Succession, which marks Strong’s final turn as turncoat failson Kendall Roy, is any proof, this paraphrased adage* remains true.
(*An adage that should, for the record, be attributed to writer Joseph Longo, who seemingly coined it in his 2020 Mel Magazine story about how Jeremy Strong loves wearing the color brown.)
In keeping with tradition of 2021’s season 3 premiere, number one boy Strong and his onscreen father-foe/offscreen colleague-foe Brian Cox duked it out for the title of biggest statement outfit at the event, which took place at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City on Monday evening. But elsewhere down at the Men in Big Business Conference, most of the other Succession fellas kept things business-stoic, sporting lots of navy and gray, neoliberal no-tie suits, and sensible “stealth wealth” formalwear on the red carpet. In general, attendees dressed like their Succession characters might, if they had to attend a relatively casual HBO event on a Monday evening.
