The Deering Estate presents two complementary film programs thematically related to Interlocking Dimensions: Eco-Art at the Deering Contemporary, the current exhibition at the Deering Estate. Both programs are organized by current Deering Estate Artist-in-Residence Barron Sherer and will take place indoors at the Deering Estate Theater.

Eco-Adjacency in Experimental Films and Videos will take place on Saturday, February 24th at 3 pm at the Visitor Center Theater. This program offers diverse and challenging artist-crafted films and videos that intertwine the concern for nature and our relation to it expressed within the possibilities of experimental cinema. The program features works by Georges Rey, Colectivo Los Ingravidos, Malena Szlam, Emily Richardson, Florencia Aliberti, Scott Hammen, Azucena Losana, Chris Welsby, and Karel Doing.

16mm Experimental Films on Eco-Art will take place on Saturday, March 2nd at 3 pm at the Visitor Center Theater. Rare Avant-garde and experimental works from cinema history will be presented in their original 16mm film formats. Curator of programming Barron Sherer continues to showcase his study of classic personal filmmaking through a public exhibition of vintage 16mm film prints. These silent, avant-garde films delve into ecosystems and our relations to the natural world, involving explorations, interactions, and mediations. The screening will appeal to an audience interested in spectacle and creativity. Moreover, it supports Sherer’s technical research and inspiration while creating new site-specific works at Deering Estate. The program features sound and silent artist films by Stan Brakhage, Abigail Child, David Gatten, and Barbara Hammer.

These events are made possible through the support of the Deering Estate, The Knight Foundation, The Miami Foundation, Lightcone, and Canyon Cinema Foundation.

All events in the program are for ages 18+
