Teen arrested for Northeast shooting

DC Police investigate a weekend shooting where both the suspect and victim were injured while struggling over the gun.

WASHINGTON — DC Police are investigating a shooting that took place over the weekend, which left both the suspect and the victim injured.

At 10:24 p.m., officers were called to the 200 block of 8th Street, Northeast, Saturday, for reports of a shooting. When they arrived, officers found the victim, a man conscious and breathing, suffering from a gunshot wound.

A short time later, officers found a teen, believed to be the suspect, in the 400 block of 9th Street, Northeast, also suffering from a gunshot wound.

Both the suspect and victim were taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the teen approached the man with a gun and demanded his property. The victim complied, but then the teen told him to unlock his phone. That’s when a fight broke out and the two struggled over the gun, causing it to discharge. Both the victim and the teen were injured in the process.

The teen has since been arrested and charged with Assault with Intent to Rob.
