The retailer says access to its app and website has been restored after an outage Friday morning disrupted online shopping ahead of Christmas.
WASHINGTON — Target says issues that disrupted its mobile app and website Friday morning have been resolved, restoring access to online shopping during the last week of the holiday shopping rush. The retailer is working to address orders affected by the outage.
“Creating a great shopping experience is always our goal, and we sincerely apologize for the disruption and thank you for your patience,” Target said. “We invite you to shop with us in stores and online to find the perfect last-minute gifts at incredible prices.”
Customers began reporting issues with Target’s mobile app and website Friday morning, according to outage tracker Downdector.
The company’s customer service account on X responded to frustrated shoppers and described the problem as a “system issue.”
“We’re currently experiencing a system issue that’s impacting some of our apps and services. Our teams are actively working to resolve it as quickly as possible,” one response from the AskTarget account explained.
In a statement posted at 11:33 a.m. Eastern Friday, the Minnesota-based retailer said it is “aware of intermittent issues with our digital experience and a fix is underway. In the meantime, our stores continue to be open and ready for holiday shopping. At Target, our top priority is offering a great guest experience. We apologize for this disruption and will provide an update as soon as possible.”
In a Reddit forum, self-identified Target workers claimed Friday’s issues were impacting everything from returns to curbside and online pickup services.
Some of the most frequent posts from shoppers Friday morning have been about being charged for online pick-up orders, but then not being able to see their order confirmation or further details.
During the holiday shopping season, Target is currently operating with extended hours. From Nov. 29 through Dec. 23, its stores are open from 7 a.m. until midnight local time. Target stores will be open on Christmas Eve from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. local time and stores will be closed on Christmas Day.
