4 dead, dozens injured after multiple shooters fire on ‘people in the open’ in Birmingham, Alabama

At least four of the gunshot victims have life-threatening injuries

BREAKING NEWS IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW, AND IT IS 201 ON A SUNDAY MORNING, SEPTEMBER 22ND. I’M JARVIS ROBERTSON HERE WITH GLADYS BAUTISTA. WE CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THAT BREAKING NEWS A MASS SHOOTING IN SOUTH SIDE OF FIVE POINT SOUTH. AND WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR IS THAT FOUR PEOPLE ARE DEAD. FOUR PEOPLE ARE CRITICALLY INJURED. AND DOZENS OF OTHERS ALSO INJURED. WHEN POLICE SAY MULTIPLE SHOOTERS OPENED FIRE ON A CROWD STANDING OUTSIDE IT ALL HAPPENED ON MAGNOLIA AVENUE. NOW, POLICE SAY THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL VICTIMS IN THIS SITUATION. AS WE KNOW, DOZENS ARE INJURED. SOME HAVE LIFE THREATENING INJURIES, SOME HAVE VARIOUS INJURIES. WE DO WANT TO GET OUT TO WVTM. 13 S ZOE BLAIR. SHE IS ON THE GROUND FOR US RIGHT NOW FOLLOWING THE LATEST GLADYS. I’M SORRY ZOE. TELL US WHAT YOU ARE SEEING AROUND YOU NOW. THANK YOU FOR. YEAH. JARVIS GLADYS. YOU CAN SEE HERE BEHIND ME. BIRMINGHAM. POLICE ARE STILL INVESTIGATING THIS MASS SHOOTING. IT HAPPENED JUST AFTER 11:00 LAST NIGHT. I’M TOLD THAT IT HAPPENED BACK THAT WAY. ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FOUNTAIN. SOMEBODY OPENED FIRE ON THE SIDEWALK. WE BIRMINGHAM. POLICE TOLD US THAT DOZENS OF PEOPLE GOT GUNSHOT INJURIES FROM THIS. EIGHT PEOPLE WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL. FOUR PEOPLE ARE DEAD. THERE ARE STILL TONS OF PEOPLE OUT HERE LOOKING FOR THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS AND TRYING. SOME OF THEM ARE JUST TRYING TO GET BACK TO THEIR CARS TO GET HOME. MANY OF THEM ARE STILL LOOKING FOR ANSWERS ON WHAT HAPPENED. BIRMINGHAM POLICE SAY THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE ANYONE IN CUSTODY RIGHT NOW, BUT THEY’RE STILL WORKING TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED. BACK TO YOU GUYS. ALL RIGHT, ZOE, THANK YOU SO MUCH. AND FROM WHAT YOU CAN SEE FROM THAT SCENE, IT LOOKS LIKE THERE IS POLICE TAPE ALL OVER THE PLACE. POLICE HAVE SAID THAT DOZENS OF THE VICTIMS ARE AT VARIOUS HOSPITALS. SO RIGHT NOW, IT JUST SEEMS LIKE THIS IS A REALLY FLUID SITUATION, A VERY FLUID SITUATION. AND KEEP IN MIND, THIS HAPPENED ON A SATURDAY NIGHT WHEN THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE OUT IN FIVE POINTS SOUTH. AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THAT CRIME SCENE TAPE THAT WE JUST SAW AROUND ZOE, POLICE ARE GOING TO BE THERE FOR SOME TIME. AGAIN, THEY SAY THAT A GROUP OF PEOPLE STARTED FIRING AT PEOPLE WHO WERE STANDING OUT IN THE OPEN, AND SOMETHING INTERESTING THAT POLICE SAID. THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT SAY HOW MANY SHOTS WERE FIRED, BUT THEY DO BELIEVE THAT GLOCK SWITCHES WERE USED. AND WE KNOW THAT THAT HAS BEEN A MAJOR ISSUE FOR THE BIRMINGHAM POLICE DEPARTMENT, FOR FEDERAL PARTNERS AS WELL, DEALING WITH THE REGULATION OF THESE GLOCK SWITCHES. WE ALSO HEARD FROM POLICE CHIEFS LAST WEEK EVEN SAYING THAT THEY’RE WORKING RIGHT NOW AT THE STATE LEVEL TO MAKE THOSE GLOCK SWITCHES THEY BELIEVE WERE USED IN TONIGHT’S SHOOTING ILLEGAL AT THE STATE LEVEL, BECAUSE RIGHT NOW THEY’RE ONLY ILLEGAL AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL. AND FOR SOME TIME THAT BIRMINGHAM CITY LEADERS, THEY HAVE BEEN WORKING TO GET THESE GLOCK SWITCHES OFF THE STREET. BIRMINGHAM BIRMINGHAM MAYOR RANDALL WOODFIN, HE HAS BEEN VERY VOCAL EVEN NOT TOO LONG AGO WITHIN THE LAST COUPLE OF MONTHS, POSTING ON SOCIAL MEDIA SAYING THAT WE ARE COMING AFTER THE PEOPLE WHO USE GLOCK. GLOCK SWITCHES. NOW KEEP IN MIND, ONCE HE MADE THAT POST, THERE WERE SOME PEOPLE WHO DECIDED TO THINK IT WAS A JOKE. THEY POSTED GLOCK SWITCHES, POSTED THEM SHOOTING GLOCK SWITCHES AND GUESS WHAT? HE POSTED THAT POLICE, FEDERAL PARTNERS THEY WENT AFTER THOSE PEOPLE. WE DID HAVE A CHANCE TO HEAR FROM SOME PEOPLE WHO WERE ON THE GROUND OUT THERE THAT NIGHT THAT WALKED UP SHORTLY AFTER THE INCIDENT HAPPENED. TAKE A LISTEN. VERY SCARY, VERY LIKE WHEN I ASKED, I WALKED UP WHEN IT WAS LIKE JUST ENDED BECAUSE EVERYBODY WAS SCREAMING. IT WAS PEOPLE CRYING. POLICE OFFICERS. THEY WAS TRYING TO GET INFORMATION FROM DIFFERENT PEOPLE. SO THEY JUST WAS TRYING TO DO THEIR JOB. AND I GUESS GET THE AID AND INFORMATION THAT THEY NEED. YOU SAID YOU SAW SOME PEOPLE CARRIED OUT ON STRETCHERS. YES, MA’AM. IT WAS LITERALLY PROBABLY ABOUT 6 TO 7 PEOPLE, MALES AND FEMALES. THAT WAS COMING OUT ON STRETCHERS. AND IT WAS AMBULANCE COMING BACK TO BACK. SO IT WAS DEFINITELY A BAD CRIME SCENE FOR THE FIVE POINTS AREA. YOU DON’T SEE STUFF LIKE THIS JUST YOU GOING OUT TO HAVE A GOOD TIME AND YOU WALK UP ON SOMETHING LIKE THIS. SO IT’S JUST IT’S VERY RARE THAT YOU SEE SOMETHING LIKE THIS VERY CLOSE TO HOME, YOU KNOW, SO JUST KIND OF SAD FOR, YOU KNOW, THE PUBLIC AND THE FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS OF THE PEOPLE THAT GOT WOUNDED. YEAH. AND SO DOES THIS MAKE YOU RETHINK YOU WANTING TO GO OUT DOWN HERE OR ANYTHING? YES, MA’AM. DEFINITELY. IT’S A GUY WALKED BY AND HE SAID, THIS IS THE MAIN REASON WHY I STAY AT HOME. YOU KNOW, AND I KNOW THINGS CAN HAPPEN NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO, BUT YOU JUST HAVE TO, YOU KNOW, BE MINDFUL OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS AND, YOU KNOW, USE YOUR BEST JUDGMENT. AND LIKE I SAID, I WAS GOING TO COME OUT EARLIER, BUT I DIDN’T. I KIND OF LAGGED AROUND AND IT WAS A REASON. SO EVERYTHING HAPPENED FOR A REASON. YOU JUST HAVE TO KNOW WHEN IT’S IT’S TIME TO GO OR IT’S TIME TO GO TO ANOTHER LOCATION BECAUSE THIS AREA HERE LATELY, THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKENDS, IT’S BEEN GETTING BAD. IT’S BEEN GETTING BAD. WOW. CAN’T EVEN IMAGINE WHAT THAT MUST HAVE BEEN LIKE. SO HAPPY THAT THAT GENTLEMAN THAT SHE SPOKE TO IS OKAY. BUT WE KNOW THAT THAT’S NOT THE SITUATION FOR SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE. AND HE TALKED ABOUT PEOPLE GETTING CARRIED OUT ON STRETCHERS ON MY WAY IN HERE. I PASSED THROUGH THAT AREA. POLICE SAY THAT THE AREA THAT I CAME DOWN, WHICH WAS UNIVERSITY BOULEVARD, HE SAID THAT THIS AREA RIGHT NOW, WE HAD TO ESTABLISH A PERIMETER SO THAT THE MEDICAL VEHICLES, THE AMBULANCES COULD GET OUT AND HAVE A PATHWAY OUT OF THAT. THAT IS, YOU KNOW, JUST TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF HOW POPULATED THIS AREA WAS WHEN ALL OF THIS HAPPENED. YEAH, WE KNOW THAT AGAIN, A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE OUT ON THE WEEKENDS AND FIVE POINTS OUT IN BIRMINGHAM. YES. AGAIN, WE DO WANT TO REITERATE THAT THIS HAPPENED JUST AFTER 11:00 LAST NIGHT. BIRMINGHAM POLICE SAY THAT SEVERAL SHOOTERS OPENED FIRE ON A CROWD OF PEOPLE. WE KNOW THAT UNFORTUNATELY, FOUR PEOPLE ARE DEAD, FOUR PEOPLE HAVE LIFE THREATENING INJURIES, BUT DOZENS OF PEOPLE HAVE VARIOUS INJURIES. MULTIPLE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL RIGHT NOW, MULTIPLE FIRST RESPONDERS STILL BEING DISPATCHED TO THAT SCENE, TRYING TO JUST GET EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL. NOW, THE MOTIVE FOR THE SHOOTING IS STILL UNCLEAR AT THIS MOMENT, AND THAT IS THE ONE THING THAT PEOPLE WILL BE LOOKING FOR, RIGHT? AND THEN WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT THIS ENTIRE AREA THAT POLICE NOW HAVE TO SIFT THROUGH TO TRY TO FIND THEIR EVIDENCE WHEN THEY’RE TALKING ABOUT GLOCK SWITCHES, YOU’RE TALKING, YOU KNOW, WE DON’T EVEN KNOW THE NUMBER OF SHOTS THAT WERE FIRED, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT A SWITCH ON A GUN LIKE THAT FROM MULTIPLE SHOOTERS. SO POLICE HAVE A LOT. THEY’RE GOING TO HAVE A LOT TO DEAL WITH. AND WHAT’S INTERESTING, YEAH, WHAT’S INTERESTING ABOUT IT WITH THOSE GLOCK SWITCHES, ONCE THEY INSTALL THEM ON A TYPICAL HANDGUN. RIGHT. I MEAN, IT CAN FIRE RAPID SUCCESSION FOR HUNDREDS OF BULLETS. SO I MEAN, BIRMINGHAM OFFICIALS, AFTER TONIGHT, THEY’RE DEFINITELY GOING TO BE PUSHING EVEN HARDER TO GET THESE OFF THE STREETS. RIGHT. AND WE HEARD FROM POLICE, THEY SAID THAT RIGHT NOW THEY WANT TO FIND THOSE SHOOTERS AND THEY’RE GOING TO HUNT THEM DOWN AND MAKE SURE THEY ARE BROUGHT TO JUSTICE. AND REALLY QUICKLY. I DO WANT TO REITERATE WHAT THE GENTLEMAN SAID, THAT IT’S SAD. I MEAN, JUST LOOKING ACROSS FACEBOOK RIGHT NOW, THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE POSTING THIS IS SAD. BIRMINGHAM WE HAVE TO DO BETTER. SO THIS IS A COMMUNITY THAT IS HURTING BY GUN VIOLENCE. DEFINITELY. UNFORTUNATELY, AND RIGHT NOW WE DON’T KNOW HOW IT’S GOING TO END. AND WE DON’T EVEN KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN AFFECTED. WE WILL CONTINUE TO FOLLOW THIS DEVELOPING STORY FOR YOU. WE HAVE CREWS ON THE GROUND THERE AT THAT SCENE. WE’RE GOING TO BE UPDATING THIS THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT.

Nick Cannon Reveals How Mariah Carey Has Been Doing Since The Passing Of Her Mom & Sister

    [ad_1]

Nick Cannon has revealed how Mariah Carey has been doing since the recent passing of her mother, Patricia Carey, and sister, Alison Carey.

Nick Cannon Shares An Update On Mariah Carey

On Wednesday, September 18, Page Six published an exclusive interview with Cannon. The outlet reportedly caught up with the 43-year-old on the red carpet of Fox Fall Press Day.

Additionally, Cannon explained that Carey is “doing the best that she possibly can, considering the circumstances.”

“But as a family, we just got to be there to support one another, show love,” the comedian added.

The 43-year-old explained that his ex-wife has been “really having a great time” with their 13-year-old twins, son Morrocan and daughter Monroe.

“That is, you know, the most important thing in the world to her, so it’s outstanding to see them supporting their mom the way they do,” Cannon added.

On September 14, Carey took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to show fans a glimpse of her recent time spent with their children.

At the Great Wall of China! Someone should’ve warned me about heels (not that I would’ve listened),” Carey wrote at the time while sharing three photos of their visit to the popular landmark.

More Details On The Passing Of Patricia & Alison Carey

As The Shade Room previously reported, the passing of Patricia and Alison Carey was publicly revealed on August 26. At the time, Carey shared a public statement.

“My heart is broken that I’ve lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day,” Carey explained at the time.

Furthermore, the singer did not shed light on the incidents that led to the tragic outcome for both her mom and sister. However, she explained that she felt “blessed” that she was able to spend time with her mother before her passing. As previously reported, Carey noted her complex relationship with her mom and sister in her memoir, ‘The Meaning of Mariah Carey.’

Nick Cannon Opened Up About Raising Teenagers With Mariah Carey

According to Page Six, as the conversation continued, Cannon also opened up about raising teenagers with Carey. The 43-year-old reportedly called it the “scariest thing in the world.”

“My daughter, she’s wearing makeup now,” he explained, speaking about Monroe. “She doesn’t wear it a lot, luckily, but it scared me. Like, we were getting ready to go — we’re in Malibu about to go to dinner, and I was like, ‘What is taking her so long?’”

Per Cannon, when he entered the 13-year-old’s room, he reportedly found a plethora of makeup and hair products.

“I was like, ‘Wow, you’re just like your mom,’” he explained. “It’s beautiful to see but scary all at the same time.”

How to react when facing a lightning hazard?

Lightning hits the United States approximately 25 million times annually. The majority of these strikes happen during the summer, causing around 20 fatalities each year, according to the NWS. The likelihood of lightning increases as a thunderstorm gets closer and reaches its highest point when the storm is directly overhead. This risk decreases as the storm moves away.

Here are tips on how to stay safe during a thunderstorm:

    • To lower the risk of lightning strikes, when going outdoors, develop a plan to reach a safer spot.

    • If the sky becomes menacing and thunder becomes audible, seek out a safe place to seek shelter.

    • Once inside, abstain from touching corded phones, electrical devices, plumbing, and windows and doors.

    • Wait for 30 minutes after the last lightning or thunder before going back out.

If finding indoor shelter is not an option:

    • Avoid open fields, the top of a hill, or a ridge top.

    • Avoid tall, isolated trees or other elevated objects. If you are in a forest, stick to areas with shorter tree cover.

    • If you are in a group, disperse to prevent the current from passing between group members.

    • If you are camping in an open space, choose a valley, ravine, or low area for your campsite. Remember, tents do not shield you from lightning.

    • Do not approach water, wet objects, or metal items. Although water and metal do not attract lightning, they conduct electricity effectively.

What to do in the rain on the road?

    • Switch on headlights — Even during daylight hours, using headlights can enhance visibility and signal your presence to other drivers.

    • On the road — Drive in the middle lanes and stay on high ground. Rainwater tends to stockpile on the edges of roads.

    • Keep clear of puddles — Driving through puddles or low rainwater areas can cause vehicles to hydroplane or skid out of control

    • Do not follow large vehicles closely — Large vehicles like trucks or buses can create a spray of water that can reduce your visibility.

    • Avoid flooded zones — If you encounter a flooded road, make a U-turn and go back. The powerful currents of flash floods can carry drivers off the road. Driving through deep water can also damage a vehicle’s mechanical and electrical systems.

    What is hydroplaning?

Hydroplaning is when a vehicle starts uncontrollably sliding on wet roads.

This happens when water in front of the tire builds up faster than the vehicle’s weight can push water out of the way. The water pressure then causes the vehicle to rise and slide on a thin layer of water between the tires and the road, making the driver lose control. The top three contributors to hydroplaning are:

    1. Vehicle speed — When a vehicle’s speed increases, the tire-traction grip and ability to control the vehicle decreases. Drive at a reduced speed during wet weather.

    2. Water depth — The deeper the water, the sooner a vehicle loses traction on the road. It doesn’t matter how deep the water is, even a thin layer can lead to hydroplaning.

    3. Tire tread depth — Checking your tire tread before hitting the road is important, as low or no tread can lead to sliding.

In the event of your vehicle hydroplaning, here’s what to know:

    • Ease off the accelerator — Step off the gas to slow down the vehicle until the tires find traction.

    • Turn into the skid — Turning into the skid can help the vehicle’s tires realign to regain control.

    • Make sure the tires reconnect with the road — During the skid, wait until the tires reconnect with the road and then gently straighten the wheels to regain control.

    • Brake gently as needed — Brake normally if the vehicle has anti-lock brakes and pump brakes gently if in an older vehicle.

Star Wars: The Old Republic gets cozy with a new farming homestead

    [ad_1]

A new developer stream for Star Wars: The Old Republic showed a surprising feature on the way in Game Update 7.5. Players will be able to earn their own farmstead on the planet of Dantooine after completing a quest chain. The cozy feature will come with a Spring Abundance festival, which includes the surprisingly comfortable activities of “seed collecting, dancing, pie-baking, animal rehabilitation, and a galactic egg hunt,” according to a press release.

Star Wars: The Old Republic has been live for 13 years, and there’s a huge archive of content for players to enjoy. Ten months ago, the MMORPG changed hands from its original developer BioWare to Broadsword, the studio behind Ultima Online and Dark Age of Camelot. While The Old Republic has faded from the spotlight, it’s still a very enjoyable game that’s worth revisiting to scratch a Star Wars itch.

Broadsword is taking the game in an intriguing direction. Patch 7.4.1 included Date Night companion missions, which are exactly what you’d expect from the name. These missions become available if the companion has been romanced, and is available in a player’s story — some circumstances can cause your partner of choice to leave the party. Date Night missions will be released in batches, and they grant a unique title and decoration.

Update 7.5 also includes a new main story chapter where players wrangle with a Hutt, and new single-player Ventures that are meant to provide a challenging experience. Players train up their very own Basilisk Prototype B3-S1 (or Bessie) and prepare them for combat. Eventually, Bessie joins your team as a permanent companion. The release date for Update 7.5 will be announced soon.

  • UPDATE: North Texas under a flood watch until Sunday evening, says the NWS

UPDATE: North Texas under a flood watch until Sunday evening, says the NWS

    [ad_1]

On Sunday at 7:15 a.m. the NWS Fort Worth TX issued an updated flood watch. The watch is for Fannin, Lamar, Collin, Hunt, Delta, Hopkins, Tarrant, Dallas, Rockwall, Kaufman, Van Zandt, Rains, Johnson, Ellis, Henderson, Bosque, Hill, Navarro, Freestone, Anderson, McLennan, Falls, Limestone, Leon, Milam and Robertson counties.

Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible for portions of north central, northeast, and south central Texas, including in north central Texas, Bosque, Collin, Dallas, Ellis, Falls, Fannin, Freestone, Hill, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Limestone, McLennan, Navarro, Rockwall and Tarrant counties. In northeast Texas, Anderson, Delta, Henderson, Hopkins, Lamar, Leon, Rains and Van Zandt. In south central Texas, Milam and Robertson until 7 p.m. this evening.

“Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations,” describes the NWS. “You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.”

This watch is in effect until 7 p.m.

Ways to stay safe during a flood according to the NWS

If you reside in a flood-prone area or you are camping in a low-lying area, move to higher ground. If told to evacuate, do so immediately. Lock your home before departing. If time allows, disconnect utilities and appliances. Avoid basements or rooms where water has submerged electrical outlets or cords. If you notice sparks or hear buzzing, crackling, snapping, or popping noises, evacuate immediately. Avoid any water that may be charged with electricity and do not attempt to walk through floodwaters. Even 6 inches of swiftly moving water can forcefully knock you off your feet. If you become trapped by moving water, seek the highest possible point and contact emergency services by calling 911.

During heavy rainfall, there is a risk of flooding, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Remember to never drive through water on the road, even if it seems shallow. According to the NWS, as little as 12 inches of rapidly flowing water can carry away most cars.

    Rainy weather driving tips

    • Turn on headlights — Even in daylight, using headlights can help improve visibility and let other drivers know where you are.

    • While driving — Stick to the middle lanes and stay on elevated ground. Rainwater tends to accumulate at the road edges.

    • Avoid puddles — Driving into puddles or low rainwater areas can lead to vehicles hydroplaning or losing control.

    • Give ample space to large vehicles — Trucks or buses can create a water spray that diminishes visibility.

    • Steer clear of flooded areas — When coming to a flooded road, turn around and head back. Flash flooding currents are strong and can sweep drivers off roadways. Driving through deep water can also affect a vehicle’s mechanical and electrical systems.

    What is hydroplaning?

Hydroplaning is the term for when a vehicle begins sliding uncontrollably on wet roads.

This happens when water in front of the tire builds up faster than the vehicle’s weight can push water out of the way. The water pressure then causes the vehicle to rise and slide on a thin layer of water between the tires and the road, making the driver lose control. Hydroplaning is primarily caused by three factors:

Houston restaurant releases statement after employee accused of putting genitals in food arrested for child pornography

    [ad_1]

A Houston restaurant released a statement after an employee is accused of sticking his genitals into open food items and possessing several videos of child pornography on his cellphone, according to charging documents.

Othello Larenzo Holmes, 27, has been charged with five counts of possession of child pornography and indecent assault.

    Kulture Restaurant issued a statement:

“Two weeks ago, we learned that one of our employees had engaged in an unacceptable act contrary to our code of conduct and outside of his employment he was involved in reprehensible illegal activities, of which we were not aware.

We took immediate action by shutting down our establishment, cleaning the entire space, discarding all existing inventory, and contacting the Police to have the employee arrested immediately. Additionally, we worked with our security team to enhance our camera systems. These actions were implemented within one hour of the incident being brought to our attention, ensuring that the matter was addressed before the business opened again.

The employee has been terminated, and we have taken all necessary steps to restore our normal services to the public. We strongly believe this is an isolated incident resulting from retaliatory measures due to a demotion. Most importantly, this dangerous pedophile is off the streets.

We are continuing to work with ourselves and our employees and law enforcement as this ongoing investigation unfolds.”

RELATED: Houston restaurant employee accused of putting his genitals in food items, possessing child pornography

    What happened?

The investigation was launched on April 4 after a Harris County deputy arrived at the restaurant in downtown Houston to meet with the restaurant’s manager.

The manager showed deputies a video of Holmes placing his penis into open food items at the location, records show.

Holmes reportedly confessed to putting his genitals in jelly, stating “he had a sexual urge, however, he stopped himself before he ejaculated.” He also admitted to having these urges frequently and has a history of sexual offenses, saying he has a problem with these sexual urges and needs help, records show.

It was not clear from the documents if this was Holmes’ first time allegedly contaminating the food with his genitals.

Reached by phone, a manager at Kulture Restaurant told KPRC 2′s Bryce Newberry that Holmes had been a cook at the restaurant for several months and that he no longer works at the establishment.

He was subsequently charged with indecent assault, which led to further investigation by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office Digital Forensic Unit.

*KPRC 2 has reached out to Houston Public Health to see if they have received any complaints or reports of illness.*

Child pornography seized from suspect’s cellphone

Holmes reportedly gave written consent to the forensic analysis of his cellphone on April 15.

According to documents, investigators extracted over 100 images and five videos of child pornography. The videos contained children between the ages of infancy and teens engaged in sexual intercourse and various sexual acts, according to the documents.

Records show an image was also found in the device, showing a chat conversation on Telegram, a social media platform. The conversation was reportedly between Holmes and another username “Princess” in a chat room named the “Devil Lair.”

In the conversation, Holmes says, “Super pervy yesterday. I wish I had access to kids,” and Princess says, “I wish you did too (cry face emoji),” records show.

Two more videos were extracted, which show Holmes fondling his genitals while lying near an unidentified child, who appears to be under 6 years old, according to documents. Investigators stated he was identified as the man in the video by the tattoos on his arm and the bedding seen in other videos.

“We kept investigating this person. And, boy, I’m glad we did, because we got a subpoena for his phone, and we found some really horrible things on his phone. We found child pornography, and we are fearful that he potentially may have and at some point, molested young children,” Precinct 1 Constable Alan Rosen told KPRC 2′s Bryce Newberry.

Due to the nature of the evidence, statements made by Holmes about him needing help with his sexual urges and the Telegram conversation, it was determined Holmes was a danger to society and should not be around children.

“I can tell y’all this individual is a predator. It is, and I don’t say that lightly,” Rosen said.

Investigators are looking to speak with parents who have children who may know Holmes because they believe he may have been creating his own child pornography and sharing it. You can contact them at (713)-755-7628.

    ‘Restaurant was very proactive’

“I want to make it clear that the restaurant was very proactive with law enforcement,” Rosen said.

“When the restaurant found out about this behavior going on, they immediately shut down, to everybody. They had not served a single patron of the restaurant. And they shut down and only had their staff, their cook staff go in and throw away items in the kitchen and or sterilize things and take the appropriate corporate responsible actions to fix the problem,” Rosen said.

Holmes has worked at several restaurants in the area, according to Rosen who also said investigators believe Holmes may have done the same thing at a hotel restaurant where he once worked.

Holmes was booked into the Harris County Jail on a $500,000 bond for the child pornography cases, records show.

Sheriff: AR-15 was used to kill deputy and officer in Salina

    [ad_1]

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — The death of two law enforcement officers has shaken the community, and will be felt for, “Days, weeks, months and years,” said Syracuse Police Chief Joe Cecile.

A briefing was held on Monday, April 15, about the Sunday, April 14, shooting that killed Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jenson and Onondaga Sheriff’s Lieutenant Michael Hoosock.

The Syracuse Police Department, Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office, Mayor Ben Walsh, Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon and President of the Syracuse Police Benevolent Association, Joe Muran, were all in attendance.

“More than just remembering them, we will honor them,” said Chief Cecile about the fallen heroes.

The incident happened around 7 p.m. on Sunday when Officer Jensen and another officer observed a gray Honda Civic in Tipperary Hill that they deemed suspicious.

They attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect, 33-year-old Christopher R. Murphy of Salina, fled. Cecile says Murphy was going at speeds of over 100 mph.

Officer Jensen and his partner used Murphy’s plate and registration to track him to a home on Darien Drive in Salina.

When they arrived at the home, they were greeted by the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office and Lieutenant Deputy Michael Hoosock.

They were all inspecting the vehicle when they heard, “A gun being manipulated,” according to Cecile.

    That gun was Murphy’s AR-15, a semi-automatic firearm.

Hoosock went behind a maple tree in a neighbor’s yard to take cover when he was “Ambushed,” said Shelley. Murphy began shooting at the officers from his back deck, which is where he killed Hoosock.

He then moved to the front yard, where he shot and killed Officer Jensen, and it was after that officers shot and killed Murphy.

“This is something you can never prepare for,” explained Onondaga County Sheriff Toby Shelley

“Two of our brothers gave the ultimate sacrifice,” said Shelley.

Officer Michael Jensen of the Syracuse Police Department had served for over two years.

Jensen thought he was going to do what he signed up for which was to enforce the law, but, “Unfortunately an evil demon took him away,” said Muran.

According to Cecile, Jensen quickly made a difference in the environment around him.

    Syracuse Police Officer, Michael Jenson

Lieutenant Deputy Michael Hoosock joined the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office in 2007. He was a Watch Commander, a Bomb Squad Commander and a recipient of commendations and medals, including the Medal of Valor in 2020.

On top of that, he was part of the Critical Emergency Management Department, a Field Director for fire service and a volunteer firefighter at the Moyers Corner Fire Department.

Lieutenant Hoosock leaves behind a wife, and three children, ages three, five and seven.

Onondaga County Sheriff’s Lieutenant, Michael Hoosock.

Syracuse Mayor Walsh thanked first responders and hospital staff who were, “Nothing short of heroic.”

At the emergency room after the incident, over 100 officers and deputies showed up to honor the fallen. Muran said you could hear a pin drop.

“We have officers in this room right now that are grieving. We have officers that are in their homes right now that are grieving. We have officers out on the streets continuing to protect them while they’re grieving. Please wrap your arms around them and lift them up,” said Walsh.

Onondaga County District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick says they are working on the what right now.

“Who fired what, where were they, who actually killed Murphy, we already know who killed Hoosock and Jensen,” said Fitzpatrick.

Their next step is to find out the why.

“How does a guy go from DEFCON 5 to DEFCON 1 over a bunch of traffic tickets,” explained Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick says that Murphy warned his friend to get out of the house, leading police to believe this incident wasn’t spontaneous, but rather that he was looking to kill cops.

The sheriff’s office also took a man named Shawn Kinsella into custody, who they say is a friend of Murphy’s. No charges have been filed at this time.

UPDATE: Flood warning affecting Dallas County Monday and Tuesday, according to the NWS

    [ad_1]

    Pexels

On Sunday at 8:57 a.m. an updated flood warning was issued by the NWS Fort Worth TX valid from Monday 5 p.m. until Tuesday 3 p.m.

Minor flooding is forecast for Trinity River at Dallas from Monday afternoon to Tuesday afternoon.

“At 30.0 feet, Minor lowland flooding will begin. The pasture lands near the river will flood. Trails along the river begin to flood,” explains the NWS. “Do not drive cars through flooded areas. Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.”

This warning is in effect until Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Ways to stay safe during a flood according to the NWS

For either residents or campers of flood-prone, low-lying areas, take immediate action and seek higher ground. Follow evacuation instructions without delay. If time permits, lock your home upon departure and disconnect utilities and appliances. Avoid entering basements or rooms where electrical outlets or cords are submerged in water. If you see sparks or hear buzzing, crackling, snapping, or popping sounds, evacuate the area immediately. Refrain from entering water that may have electricity in it and avoid walking through floodwaters. Even 6 inches of moving water can pose a serious risk of knocking you off your feet. If you find yourself trapped by moving water, move to the highest possible point and contact emergency services, and dial 911.

During heavy rain, flooding is possible, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Never drive through water on the road, even if it does not appear to be deep. It takes just 12 inches of rushing water to carry away most cars, according to the NWS.

Angleton advised to prepare for severe storms Saturday night

    [ad_1]

ANGLETON, TexasAfter the Houston area faced severe weather Friday evening, the City of Angleton is advising its citizens to prepare for another night of intense conditions.

In a Facebook post shared Saturday evening, the City of Angleton Office of Emergency Management gave a timeline for the anticipated storms and an update on how officials expect the city to be impacted.

The storms are supposed to start around midnight tonight and last as late as Sunday afternoon.

The post acknowledged that many Angleton citizens are still without power after Friday’s storms.

“We understand it is difficult without power, but [Texas-New Mexico Power] and the City of Angleton Office of Emergency Management are working to support our community,” the post read.

The post also said that TNMP has two 6-man teams and 7 contractor teams working to restore power to the community. Even with that manpower, the issues with power likely won’t be fixed right away.

“Due to the level of damage received, getting the proper supplies is taking some time, and they are making their way throughout town,” the post read.

On Friday at 11:27 p.m. an updated severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the NWS Fort Worth TX in effect until Saturday at 12:30 a.m. The warning is for Dallas, Ellis, Kaufman and Rockwall counties.

Residents should prepare for wind gusts of up to 60 mph.

According to the NWS, “For your protection get inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows.”

This warning is in effect until Saturday at 12:30 a.m.

Actions to take when lightning threat is imminent

Lightning strikes the United States about 25 million times a year. Most of the strikes occur in the summer, killing 20 people each year, according to the NWS. Chance of lightning increases as a thunderstorm approaches and peaks when the storm is overhead. It diminishes as the storm moves away.

Here are recommendations for maintaining safety during a thunderstorm:

    • To minimize risk of being struck by lightning, when going outside, have a plan to get to a safer place.

    • If the sky becomes threatening and thunder can be heard, find a safe place to shelter.

    • Once indoors, avoid touching corded phones, electrical equipment, plumbing, and windows and doors.

    • Wait 30 minutes after the last lightning or thunder before going back outside.

If finding indoor shelter is not an option:

    • Steer clear of open fields, hilltops, or ridge tops.

    • Stay away from tall, isolated trees or other tall objects. If you are in a forest, stay near a lower stand of trees.

    • If you are with a group, fan out to stop the current from transmitting between members.

    • When camping in an open environment, select a campsite in a valley, ravine, or low region. Just remember, tents do not offer protection from lightning.

    • Keep a distance from water, wet articles, and metal objects. While water and metal do not draw lightning, they are proficient conductors of electricity.

What steps to follow when driving in the rain?

    • Switch on headlights — Even during daylight hours, using headlights can enhance visibility and signal your presence to other drivers.

    • While on the road — Opt for the middle lanes and remain on higher ground. Rainwater tends to gather along the road edges.

    • Avoid puddles — Driving into puddles or low rainwater areas can lead to vehicles hydroplaning or losing control.

    • Do not follow large vehicles closely — Large vehicles like trucks or buses can create a spray of water that can reduce your visibility.

    • Avoid flooded areas — When encountering a flooded road, do a U-turn and head back. The strong currents from flash floods can pull drivers off roadways. Driving through deep water can also negatively affect a vehicle’s mechanical and electrical systems.

    What is hydroplaning?

Hydroplaning happens when a vehicle starts sliding uncontrollably on wet roads.

This happens when water in front of the tire builds up faster than the vehicle’s weight can push water out of the way. The water pressure then causes the vehicle to rise and slide on a thin layer of water between the tires and the road, making the driver lose control. Hydroplaning is primarily caused by three factors:

Chainsaw Man is getting an anime movie set after the first season

    [ad_1]

Chainsaw Man fans, rejoice: MAPPA announced on Sunday that a new anime film is currently in production, continuing the story of Denji’s time as a Devil hunter following the events of the anime’s first season.

The movie, titled Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, is set after the events of the Katana Man arc of the original manga and will follow Denji’s relationship with Reze, a mysterious love interest who harbors a darker and more… let’s just say “explosive” side than he is aware of.

No official release date has been announced as of yet, but it’s fair to guess that MAPPA will announce more information regarding the film’s eventual premiere sometime later next year.

There’s also no word yet as to the potential production or premiere of a second season of Chainsaw Man, which aired its first 12-episode season in 2022. It’s possible that Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc will lead into an eventual announcement of a second season, similar to how the premiere of 2020’s Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train precluded the second season of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, which later re-edited the movie into its own 7-episode television arc.

Chainsaw Man is available to stream on Crunchyroll.

  • Austin Pets Alive! | Letter from Dr. Jefferson: Properties Update

Austin Pets Alive! | Letter from Dr. Jefferson: Properties Update

    [ad_1]

    Jan 20, 2022

Hi everyone! And a happy new year! I hope this finds you and yours well. I wanted to reach out today to provide an update on where we stand with our plans for APA!’s campuses, land, and facilities.

As a reminder, your voices were heard in November as you helped us get the APA! Resolution passed with Austin City Council. In that resolution, the city council directed us to work with the City of Austin staff to determine an intake percentage number based on those animals at risk of euthanasia. We continue those discussions with the city and will have an update to share with you in February.

While we remain hopeful that we will finally reach a new agreement with city animal services and sign a long term lease to keep a small portion of our operations on our Town Lake Animal Center (TLAC) campus as soon as possible, we are excited to be exploring our expansion regardless of the TLAC outcome.

The APA! Board of Directors and some other amazing volunteers have been utilizing their connections to help us find Austin properties to purchase and expand our footprint. Right now there are a couple of potential properties we are looking at and because the property is, of course, at a premium in Austin, we are looking at properties with existing buildings we could adjust to fit our programs and services – and also properties with mostly open land. Based on what we find and can afford, the APA! leadership team is working on different solutions with a group of architects to puzzle together which programs and services would fit where and how best to maximize each scenario of property combinations for lifesaving.

What this means for APA! team members and supporters is that change – but exciting change – is on the horizon very soon. By this time next year, we could potentially have 4 locations, including TLAC and Tarrytown! With this expanding footprint we are making sure that each potential place provides a drastic improvement to what we have now. We know that a shelter needs to serve the purposes it should – not mass housing in uncomfortable kennels but getting each animal who needs us most the care, support and rehabilitation they need to get them ready for a home (whether it be foster or adoptive home) and out of kennel as quickly as possible!

We will continue to keep you informed of our property progress and your support we’ll need during this exciting time. Thank you as always for being part of this amazing lifesaving community for people and pets.
