    Packing for a 10-day trip to Japan was a serious feat, but the trip was well worth it for all the style inspiration I could bring back from Tokyo. Walking around the neighborhoods of Shibuya, Daikanyama, Shinjuku, Harajuku, and Meguro City for days on end, there was no shortage of cool street style outfits, and I took meticulous notes on all the trends I saw.     Meghan Markle is on the move—to Europe for the Invictus Games, specifically—and has the perfect travel outfit for the 10.5-hour flight. As someone who admittedly struggles with long-flight outfit planning, I appreciate all the help I can get (even if Meghan Markle didn’t intentionally mean to help me). 

    While everything about Markle’s outfit for the trip was spot-on, it was her pants and shoes that really caught my eye. Markle opted for loose wide-leg pants for the flight, which I find to be a genius move. The loose trousers provide comfort for the lengthy flight, but also polish (which they have far more of than leggings or sweatpants). For her shoes, she opted for a pair of chic flat mules, and I’ll tell you why that was also a smart move. Obviously flats are key on travel days, and the backless pair may not be quite as secure as, say, a pair of sneakers, but the benefit you get is not having your shoes rubbing the back of your ankle raw as you walk through a massive airport.

    If all goes to plan, I’ll be arriving at Milan Malpensa Airport in exactly 30 days, where I’ll return 10 days later after I’ve sunned my way through the Italian Riviera—with stops in Santa Margherita Ligure, Camogli, and Portofino—and shopped my way through Milan.     Fast-forward a few months later and I was boarding a plane for Bodrum with a reservation at Maçakizi carrying a suitcase packed with sarongs, sandals, and swimsuits I was waiting to wear. Jet lagged after a transatlantic flight and unsure of what to expect after stepping off the tarmac, I was picked by a Range Rover Defender at the airport by a driver in a white linen shirt and khakis. After a 45-minute drive through hills thick with trees winding though clusters of white buildings and views of the Aegean coast sparkling below, I pulled up to Maçakizi on a balmy August evening. The property—originally founded in 1977 by Ayla Emiroğlu and now owned by her son, Sahir Erozan—permeates laid-back, bohemian luxury. The grounds were lush with olive trees and bougainvillea. The reception area was adorned with wooden furniture, bright rugs, and dogs and cats nestled into shady corners. The rooms have travertine tile, red and white bed linens, and Acqua di Parma toiletries. The sound of cicadas filled the air.

    I was recently lucky enough to spend a few weeks in Europe, stopping first in the United Kingdom before heading to the South of France.     I’ve always been an overpacker, so when I booked a three-week trip to Europe this summer, I decided it was time to change my bad habit. I was heading to London, a small town in the French countryside, and then to a few towns along the French Riviera, so I needed to pack a variety of outfits fit for everything from the city to the beach.
