As Philadelphia firefighters responded to a deadly fire in Strawberry Mansion on Friday, a burglar broke into two fire trucks and then stole a car at the fire house, police said.
Police say they are still looking for the man who burglarized firefighters battling the blaze that took place on the 3200 block of Ridge Avenue in the Strawberry Mansion neighborhood of Philadelphia around 4:45 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 28.
At least two firefighters reported personal items stolen, including a set of car keys, a set of house keys and medication, police said.
The suspect, who police say was seen on security cameras, also went to the fire house and stole a red Jeep using the car keys he had stolen a bit earlier.
Police also say that the trucks that were burglarized were farther away from the fire, and the thief would back away from the vehicles if a firefighter got close to avoid being spotted.
The fire left one person dead and two homes damaged, police said.
