The school had been renting the property since Jan. 2024, according to a broker on the deal.

The church on the property dates back to 1878 when it was first built. The Sacred Heart Parish has consolidated its operations and services with Our Lady of Good Counsel at 14300 Main Road in Mattituck.

Founded in 2012, Peconic Community School offers programs for children ages 3 through grade 8 and has nearly 100 students and 25 full-time faculty and staff, according to its website. The school is currently in the midst of a capital raising campaign to create an educational campus at the former church property, with a performing arts center in the former church, community art studio and maker space in the carriage house, a renovated school building and an overhaul of the property’s outdoor spaces.

Ike Israel of Richmond Realty represented the buyer, while Patricia Nicklaus of Howard Hanna | Coach Realtors represented the seller, RC Church of Sacred Heart, in the Cutchogue sales transaction.
