NEWBURGH — Two people were arrested – one of them a woman tackled by a Warrick County Sheriff’s Office deputy – during a town hall event hosted by Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith in Newburgh on Wednesday night.
The names of the attendees arrested, and their charges, weren’t immediately available. As of 7:40 p.m., people were still inside the Ohio Township Trustee Office where the event took place, and police were collecting statements.
Warrick County Sheriff Mike Wilder told the Courier & Press the agency would not issue a statement Wednesday night, and did not immediately respond to additional questions.
Through photographs and and a nametag on his uniform, the Courier & Press identified the deputy as Dan Bullock. A reporter and photographer witnessed him tackle a woman after some attendees at the town hall began to get loud and unruly. A man stepped in to help the woman and was also arrested.
Not long before, Beckwith had threatened to end the town hall.

The woman had been shouting at Beckwith, and authorities told her to stop or she would be removed. She appeared to be leaving of her own accord when she turned around and called Beckwith a “bitch.”
“She’s a gem isn’t she?” Beckwith said to the crowd as the woman was making her way to the exit.
The woman continued moving toward an exit before the deputy tackled her.
Evansville police responded to the scene shortly after 7:30 p.m. Newburgh police and the Warrick County Sheriff’s Office had already been in attendance. A line of police cars and fire trucks could be seen outside the building.
The Courier & Press sent email messages to Beckwith’s spokesperson seeking comment.
Evansville Police Chief Phil Smith said EPD officers were called to assist state police troopers but did not engage in any enforcement action. Smith said he had no further comment and referred questions to Indiana State Police.
