South Florida will see another round of cold this week, according to the National Weather Service in Miami. The year ended and started with temperatures in the 40s, and it will likely be just as cold Thursday night and Friday.
But the rain falling on us the past couple of days will continue most of the week, and usher in not only a cold Friday but a wet one, too, said National Weather Service meteorologist Sammy Hadi.
Here’s what to expect through the weekend:
Weather forecast: ‘Big chill’
We are “getting ready for the big chill” Friday, according to Miami Herald news partner CBS News Miami meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez.
Friday morning will feel like the low-40s and possibly upper-30s in some inland areas of Miami-Dade and Broward counties when factoring in the wind, Gonzalez said.
“You will need to bundle up,” she said.
Hadi said increasing winds could create hazardous marine condtions, so swimmers and boaters should stay aware.
The Miami-Fort Lauderdale area on Wednesday, according to Hadi, could warm up to the 80s and cool down to the 60s, Hadi said.
Looking ahead:
- Thursday: Low to mid 70s down to low to mid 40s overnight.
- Friday: Upper 60s down to low to mid 40s.
- Saturday: Low 70s down to upper 40s and low 50s.
- Sunday: Low 70s down to low to mid 50s.
Rain chances
People in the Miami-area should plan on packing a rain jacket or an umbrella through Friday.
Scattered showers are expected until the end of Tuesday, Hadi said. Wednesday and Thursday carry a 30 to 40% chance of rain. Friday brings a 40 to 60% possibility of rain.
When will it stop?
Hadi said South Florida should dry up by the weekend while temperatures warm up a bit.
