  • Man torches deputy’s home burglarized the night before, arrested after standoff in Norman

    A man believed to have burned down a McClain County sheriff’s deputy’s home Friday night was in custody Saturday morning, Aug. 23, after a brief standoff in Norman.

    He had been “targeting law enforcement officers’ homes and vehicles to burglarize,” according to the McClain County Sheriff’s Office.

    “Overnight a suspect returned to the scene of an off-duty police officer’s home that he had been caught burglarizing the night before,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook. “He lit fire to the vehicles & the home which was occupied by the family The home & vehicles are a total loss, but thankful the officer and his family are safe.”

    Authorities did not give the victim’s name nor the location of the home.

    Numerous agencies responded to the threat to law enforcement.

    In addition to McClain County sheriff’s deputies, assisting authorities included the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office, Chickasaw Lighthorse Police, and police departments in Moore, Newcastle, Norman and Washington, OK.
