Three food and drink businesses from Co. Leitrim have been named among the finalists for this year’s Blas na hÉireann – Irish Food Awards to be held in Dingle.

Dromod, Ireland West Distillery, and McNiffes Boxty have all made it through to the final stage of the competition, which is regarded as the most prestigious food awards on the island.

McNiffe’s Boxty took to Facebook to celebrate the nomination: “We are absolutely thrilled to share that McNiffe’s Boxty has been named a Finalist in Blas na hÉireann 2025 – The Irish Food Awards! “

“Being recognised in Ireland’s biggest blind-tasted food awards means the world to us,” said the Drumshanbo based bakery.

“A massive thank you to all our customers, friends, and family who have supported us on this journey – your support keeps us inspired every day! We can’t wait to celebrate in Dingle this October alongside so many other incredible Irish producers,” they said. Adding: “Here’s to keeping the tradition alive”

The awards will take place in Kerry this October, running from Thursday the 2nd to Sunday the 5th, with the winners announced on Friday, October 3. 

The event also features the Blas Village, the Eat Ireland in a Day market and a showcase for producers.

Now in year 18, Blas na hÉireann continues to grow, with more than 3,000 entries submitted from across the island, and a record number of new producers taking part. 

The 2025 awards also see the biggest ever expansion in categories, now totalling 190, including significant growth in fast-evolving areas such as alcoholic drinks and their non-alcoholic alternatives.

Judging was carried out during May, June and July in partnership with UCC and TU Dublin. Entries were blind-tasted and assessed by panels made up of chefs, buyers, restaurateurs, academics and industry experts.

Congratulating the Leitrim finalists, Joe Lowe, Head of Enterprise at Local Enterprise Office Leitrim, said: “Congratulations to all the shortlisted nominees as making it as a finalist is a huge achievement. The Blas na hÉireann Awards reflect the outstanding quality and passion within Ireland’s food and drink sector – it is a celebration of great food, and of the people, passion and place that make Irish food so special.”

Chairperson of Blas na hÉireann, Artie Clifford, said the standard this year was higher than ever: “That’s not just in terms of the ever-growing number of entries, but in the incredible standard of produce from both long-standing producers and impressive newcomers. We’ve also seen huge innovation across all categories, which reflects the evolving landscape of Irish food and drink.”
