    According to a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, California-based photographer Dennis Lee accuses the Lions of copying and publishing three of his photos on the team’s official social media accounts without purchasing the correct commercial license.

    The Photos at the Center of the Case

    The images in question aren’t from Goff’s NFL career but rather his high school days between 2011 and 2012, when he played basketball and baseball at Marin Catholic High School.

    Lee argues these photos carry unique value because they are among the only known professionally taken images of Goff playing sports outside of football. With Goff’s fame centered around his football career, from starring at Cal to being drafted by the Los Angeles Rams and eventually traded to Detroit, photos of him in other athletic settings are considered “rare and valuable.”

    What the Lawsuit Claims

    Lee says he owns the copyright to the photos and that the Lions knowingly used them without proper licensing.

    The complaint alleges that a Lions representative purchased personal, non-commercial licenses for the images through MaxPreps, a popular high school sports photography platform. That license allowed for “personal and/or family use” only, not commercial use on accounts with millions of followers promoting a professional football franchise.

    “No one from TDL (The Detroit Lions) ever contacted MaxPreps to obtain a commercial license to use the Goff Photos, and Lee never granted such a license,” the complaint states.

    What Lee Is Seeking

    Lee is asking the court for both temporary and permanent injunctions that would stop the Lions from copying, displaying, or distributing the photos in any capacity. He is also seeking monetary relief, including damages and any profits the Lions may have gained from the photos’ use.

    The Lions have not yet publicly commented on the lawsuit.

I really believe the Lions would love to sneak both Meeks and Lovett onto their practice squad, but that’s risky. Some have suggested the Lions will keep seven receivers, but I just don’t see that happening. I like Meeks more than Lovett, and the Lions have a better chance of getting Lovett to the practice squad.

    Both natives of the Sunshine State, Goff was born on October 14, 1994, in Novato, CA. He played college football for the California Golden Bears, setting season records for passing yards and passing touchdowns in the Pac-12 Conference. In the 2016 NFL Draft, Goff was selected first overall by the Los Angeles Rams, signing a four-year deal worth $27.9 million in guaranteed money, including an $18.6 million signing bonus. He had his first start against the Miami Dolphins in November of that year.

    On March 18, 2021, Goff was traded to the Detroit Lions, a franchise known for losing, in exchange for quarterback Matthew Stafford. In December 2021, the Lions ended a 15-game losing streak when their new leader threw the game-winning touchdown. Jared Goff‘s future wife wasn’t there in the moment—she was on a photo shoot with Sports Illustrated—but her reaction was priceless when she found out.

    Belief in Lions has slowly grown from there.     In December 2021 when Goff ended the Lions’ 15-game losing streak, she was on set with Sports Illustrated, who told her what had happened and showed her the clip. “It’s over? Shut up, shut up,” she beamed. “You guys, this is their first win, like this is crazy. … Oh my god, this is gonna make me cry.”

    In 2022, Harper became a panelist on the Women of the League web series, which aimed to focus “on empowering women through raw, honest conversation that challenges the stereotype of what’s traditionally been perceived as a ‘typical’ NFL wife.”

    During the show’s second episode, Harper spoke of what it was like up-ending her life in LA to help her partner pursue his dreams. “In LA, it was such a different experience for me because I did have friends and family, so I wasn’t as involved with the women on the team,” she said. “But moving to Detroit, it was such a stark contrast, I had nothing there. So I really relied on the women on the team.”

    She continued, “Because we were in LA, I had the best of both worlds. I was working every day but I could still be with Jared … But once we moved that was a huge sacrifice for me, I was giving up a career. That was really hard and it really affected my identity and kind of who I was. I had a hard time at first,” she added of the move to Detroit. “I am still trying to find that balance of still having stuff that is my own and still working.”

    HANK’S HONEYS: The Packers don’t beat the Saints if Derek Carr doesn’t get hurt but that’s football. Now they must face the up-and-coming Lions with injuries of their own. Jordan Love could be missing his starting left guard and tackle against a Lions pass rush that recorded seven sacks last week. Love keeps getting away with throwing into tight coverage (seven TDs, one INT) but his luck is due to run out if he’s under that much pressure. The Lions have been particularly stingy against the run so Love will have to bring it.

    The Packers have been money at home with an NFL-best record ATS since Matt LaFleur took over in 2019. But that hasn’t been the case against Detroit. The Lions love it at Lambeau, where they knocked the Packers out of the playoff race on the final day of last season and Jared Goff, whose offense is averaging 381 ypg, loves to play the Packers with a 4-2 record against them.

    Detroit seems ready to take control of the NFC North where it has won its last six games ATS. Dan Campbell’s team is also 7-2 ATS following a win since the start of last season. It will be close like Green Bay’s last two games but the bottom line is that they have more talent spread out across the roster and that should come through in a short week.

    Panthers run past Lions 37-23, maintain division title hopes

    CHARLOTTE, N.C. — D’Onta Foreman knew the Carolina Panthers’ offensive linemen meant business when they walked into a meeting room following Friday’s walkthrough practice. They were silent, and wearing full-length black ski masks.

    To Foreman, it meant the linemen were focused — and ready to bounce back from a disappointing showing the week before.

    They did just that Saturday.

    Foreman ran for a career-high 165 yards and a touchdown and the Panthers racked up a franchise-record 320 yards on the ground behind a dominating performance up front to beat the Detroit Lions 37-23 and keep their NFC South title hopes alive.

    Chuba Hubbard also had a career best by rushing for 125 yards for the Panthers, who had been held to 21 yards on 16 carries in a home loss to Pittsburgh six days earlier.

    “Our guys were challenged,” Panthers interim coach Steve Wilks said. “We got embarrassed last week in so many fashions and they bounced back and showed their true character in how we practiced last week and, most importantly, in how we came out today and performed. Those guys up front accepted to challenge and were coming off the ball.”

    Sam Darnold completed 15 of 22 passes for 250 yards and a touchdown and ran for a score to improve to 3-1 as Carolina’s starting QB. Raheem Blackshear and D.J. Moore also scored for the Panthers, who amassed a team-record 570 yards of offense in the coldest game ever played at Bank of America Stadium.

    The Panthers had seven runs of 20 yards or more against a Lions defense that had allowed just 84 yards rushing per game over the last five weeks. Foreman and Hubbard both exceeded 100 yards rushing in the first half as the Panthers built a 24-7 lead.

    Both running backs said they felt at times the Lions didn’t even want to tackle them on Carolina’s unforgiving artificial turf.

    “Definitely,” Hubbard said. “We pride ourselves on just wearing on a team, and when it gets cold out here like this, not too many people want to get hit or do any tackling — and that definitely showed.”

    Carolina (6-9) can clinch its first division title since 2015 with wins at Tampa Bay and New Orleans.

    Detroit (7-8) came in having won six of its previous seven games to pull within a half-game of Washington in the race for the NFC’s final wild card spot entering the weekend.

    Lions coach Dan Campbell called the loss “tough to swallow.”

    “Ultimately, when you play that way, it falls on me,” Campbell said. “I didn’t have them ready to go. That wasn’t good enough. That was a hungry team that we played. And we didn’t look as hungry. That’s the bottom line.”

    Jared Goff threw three touchdown passes to third-string tight end Shane Zylstra for the Lions.

    The temperature was 20 degrees at kickoff with a wind chill of 9, and the Panthers made it clear they were going to pound the ball. They ran five times for 85 yards on their opening possession and took a 7-0 lead with Blackshear scoring on a 7-yard run. Hubbard, who got the start over Foreman, carried three times for 70 yards on the drive.

    The Lions countered with a 3-yard TD pass from Goff to Zylstra. Following a fumble by Goff, the Panthers proceeded to score 17 straight points to close the half by repeatedly running through gaping holes.

    Darnold scored on a 3-yard quarterback keeper and Foreman added a 4-yard TD run to make it 21-7.

    With 59 seconds left in the half and leading by 14, the Panthers used the running game to go 68 yards in less than a minute and set up the first of Eddy Pineiro’s three field goals.

    Carolina had 364 yards by halftime, a first-half franchise record.

    Panthers right tackle Taylor Moton, who came up with the idea for the ski masks, said the offensive line learned from last week’s loss.

    “We were able to run the ball when and how we wanted to run it and Sam was able to stay up and stay clean and that sounds like a great day at the office to me,” Moton said.

    TOUGH TURF

    Several Carolina players have complained about the synthetic surface at Bank of America Stadium, and Detroit’s Goff joined that chorus after the game.

    “I thought the field conditions were below NFL level standard, specifically pregame,” Goff said. “It warmed up as the game wore on. I don’t what the deal is here. But they need to figure out a way to make the field not feel like cement. Why that is, I don’t know.”

    INJURIES

    Lions: RB Jamaal Williams suffered a lower-body injury but returned.

    Panthers: Wilks didn’t have an update on CB Jaycee Horn’s injury after the game, but defensive end Brian Burns said Horn broke his wrist in the fourth quarter. … WR Shi Smith (foot, head) left in the third quarter.
