  • Music Rewind 2025: KATSEYE’s Biggest Moments & Songs Of The Year

    [ad_1]

You know that feeling when you hear a song, and it slaps so hard you spill your iced latte? That was 2025 for KATSEYE: a year of bold moves, sonic risk-taking, and full-on pop chaos in the best way. From viral hits to award wins and a headlining tour, they owned a wild ride! Here’s a look back at how they turned “maybe we’ll see” into “definitely how we’ll remember 2025.”

The Set-Up: Who KATSEYE Even Is (Short Version)

Formed via the global audition series Dream Academy and signed under HYBE × Geffen Records, KATSEYE surfaced in 2024 as an English-language, multinational girl group; six members from the U.S., Philippines, Switzerland, and Korea. Their debut EP was 2024’s SIS (Soft Is Strong), which gave us the drum-and-bass tinged dance track ‘Touch.’

But 2025 was when KATSEYE stopped easing in… and started hitting hard.

    1. ‘Gnarly’: The Hyperpop Cannonball That Shocked (Then Charmed) Everyone

The year began with a bold statement: April 30, 2025, saw the release of ‘Gnarly‘: a chaotic, camp, hyperpop-infused single that sounded like equal parts late-night rave and meme dream.

Listeners were split at first. Some balked at the brash lyrics and glitchy production while others were suddenly obsessed. And guess what? That split alone helped ‘Gnarly’ break through. It became the group’s first song to land on the Billboard Hot 100, proving that shock value can fuel chart success!

‘Gnarly’ didn’t aim to be pretty. It aimed to be unforgettable. And in a fast-spinning pop world, boldness often wins.

    2. ‘Gabriela’: From Salsa-Spiced Heartbreak To Global Bop

Just when fans thought 2025 might stay messy, KATSEYE slowed down the pace! The June 20 release of ‘Gabriela’ offered a Latin-pop flavored twist. With its smooth rhythm, a Spanish verse by one of the singers, and telenovela-style drama (“you took him, so Gabriela’s in control now”), the track landed as a sassy, side-eye anthem.

Critics were quick to compare it to a Gen Z ‘Jolene.’ And fans? We ate it up! ‘Gabriela’ became a top-ten hit in multiple national charts and climbed globally.

It showed another side of KATSEYE: sultry, polished, emotionally potent; proving they weren’t just about chaos.

    3. EP Moment: BEAUTIFUL CHAOS Ties It All Together

On June 27, 2025, KATSEYE dropped their second EP BEAUTIFUL CHAOS, which included five tracks that ranged from brash hyperpop to silky pop-R&B. Alongside ‘Gnarly’ and ‘Gabriela,’ fans got dance-pop bops, emotional R&B numbers, and even a sugary ‘Gameboy’ throwback that nodded to ’00s nostalgia.

The EP’s chart performance was no fluke: it broke into the top ten in fourteen regions, including the U.S., Belgium, and South Korea; a clear signal that KATSEYE was no longer just “a project group!”

BEAUTIFUL CHAOS proved that the group could craft a project with variety, even if some songs hit harder than others.

    4. Live Energy: The Beautiful Chaos Tour & Viral Debuts

What’s a pop group without a live show? In 2025, KATSEYE embarked on their first headlining concert run: the Beautiful Chaos Tour, hitting major cities across North America.

During their tour, they dropped a surprise: a brand-new track, ‘Internet Girl’: fresh, unannounced, and full of early-era energy! It felt like a promise: they weren’t done yet.

Watching them on stage, you saw it: a global group, trained with K-pop precision, delivering polished choreography and singing across languages, but meant for the world.

    5. Growing Pains And Conversation Sparks

2025 wasn’t all gloss and glam. With risk comes critique. ‘Gnarly’ may have been a statement piece, but its polarized response reminded everyone that shock has a shelf-life. Some argued the chaotic vibes lacked cohesion or that the group was still figuring out who they were: experimental hyperpopers? Latin-tinged pop queens? Global dance-pop icons? Probably all of the above.

That ambiguity sometimes reads as a promise. Other times, as indecision. But when you’re young, bold, and hungry, maybe a little messy, you get to try on different sounds, different moods. And that trial period? That’s often where magic lives!

    6. Why 2025 Matters For KATSEYE (And Maybe For Pop In General)

Here’s the thing… global pop is no longer about neat categories (K-pop, American pop, Latin pop, etc.). With KATSEYE, we saw a mainstream act that doesn’t care about boxes. The group flips between hyperpop, Latin vibes, EDM bops, R&B softness… sometimes within the same EP. That kind of genre mix? It’s risky. But in a landscape where streaming playlists and algorithmic recommendations favor mood and flexibility over rigid genre loyalty, it can also be genius.

2025 became the year KATSEYE stopped introducing themselves and began sending a message: we’re not here to fit in. We’re here to collide… loud, colorful, messy, and electric!

    7. Awards & Nods: When Chaos Meets Trophies

This year wasn’t just loud; it was rewarded. KATSEYE picked up their first major award at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, winning Push Performance of the Year for their single ‘Touch.’ It was their first Moon Person trophy: a moment that felt like validation, not just for viral success, but for genuine impact.

But that’s not all. Later in November, they made history again, this time as first-time nominees at the Grammy Awards! KATSEYE landed two nominations: Best New Artist and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (for ‘Gabriela’). That’s huge for a group that only debuted in mid-2024.

Between trophies, nominations, and charting hits, 2025 wasn’t just a breakout year. It was a breakthrough year.

So… What’s Next? (Yes, We’re Already Clutching Our Seat)

If 2025 taught us anything, it’s that KATSEYE thrives on contrast. They’re not just chasing hits. They’re chasing moments… the kind you play loud at 2 am, the kind that hijack your playlists.

Whatever they choose next, whether another twisty hyperpop banger or a sultry pop-R&B slow jam, you can bet it’ll be loud. And you’ll remember it!

Because in a world full of carefully curated pop stars, KATSEYE is chaos… beautiful chaos.

  • All 5 Members of NewJeans Reportedly Plan to Return to Label

Get up. All five members of NewJeans have reportedly decided to return to ADOR after the label won a legal dispute over their contracts on October 30. ADOR confirmed in a November 12 tweet that members Hyein and Haerin have expressed their desire to comply with a South Korean court’s recent ruling and come back to the company. So why aren’t fans panicking that the K-pop quintet is breaking up and becoming TwoJeans? About three hours after ADOR’s initial announcement, local outlets reported that members Minji, Hanni, and Danielle said through lawyers that they are also planning to continue their careers with the HYBE-owned label. “One of our members is currently in Antarctica, which delayed communication,” they said in a statement translated by the Korea Herald, “and since ADOR has yet to respond, we decided to announce this separately. We will continue to meet fans with sincere music and performances.” Reuters reports that ADOR is “checking” whether the three members really intend to return.

NewJeans, the girl group that debuted in July 2022 and less than a year later became the fastest K-pop act to ever hit 1 billion streams on Spotify, announced last November that they were leaving their label, citing alleged mistreatment as well as dissatisfaction with the removal of Min Hee-jin as the CEO. They later attempted to rebrand as indie artists, but a court injunction in March put an end to their fresh start as NJZ. After losing the lawsuit over their contracts in October, the group’s legal team said they planned to appeal the decision, asserting that “the relationship of trust between NewJeans and ADOR has been completely destroyed, making normal activities impossible.” At the time, the label stated that it had already completed preparations for a group album and was waiting for the girls to come back. If the full group has truly changed their tune about making tunes with ADOR, then it sounds like new NewJeans music is on the way.

Catching You Up On Everything SEVENTEEN Is Up To In Caratland

    [ad_1]

SEVENTEEN continues to make history this year, and we’re just super proud of them. We also got some news on Jeonghan, Jun, and Seungkwan, as well as sneak peeks at their upcoming album!👀

    Lollapalooza Berlin

The crowd was packed with excited Carats waiting to see what kind of stage SEVENTEEN was going to put on, and we can confidently say that everyone left the show as excited as when they got there. They not only blew us away but everyone in Berlin as well!

    Setlist

    • ‘Super’
    • ‘Don Quixote’
    • ‘Darl+ing’
    • ‘Ready to Love’
    • ‘Rock with you’
    • ‘Left & Right’
    • BSS – ‘Fighting’
    • Vocal Unit – ‘Cheers to youth’
    • Performance Unit ‘Spell’
    • HipHop Unit ‘Fire’
    • Leader Line – ‘Cheers’
    • ‘Clap’
    • ‘Maestro’
    • ‘SOS’
    • ‘HOT’
    • ‘Headliner’
    • ‘Together’ (Eng Ver.)
    • ‘God of Music’
    • ‘Aju Nice’

If you’ve ever been to a SEVENTEEN show, then you’ve heard a handful of these tracks live and know how well they can perform. So, we expected some of these tracks because they do like to pull out their top hits for moments like this. Some of our favorite track performances had to be ‘Headliner,’ ‘Cheers,’ ‘Hot,’ ‘Maestro,’ and, of course, the never-ending ‘Aju Nice.’ We know you have been seeing the fancams from that day 😉

You can watch the full performance on their official YouTube channel. The boys always put on one hell of a show, but this one is just different, making history; while it was Jeonghan’s last performance for a little while, sadly, we were missing Jun.

    It Will Always Be 13

Okay, so we got the news about Jun and Jeonghan around the same time; PLEDIS let Carats know that neither will be going on their upcoming tour nor will they be participating in album promotions, but they did film some stuff for the album beforehand, which is good! So Jun is currently in China diving into more acting, and Jeonghan will be starting his Military Service on September 26th. We also want to mention that Seungkwan has been appointed public relations ambassador for Jeju Island, which we know is a big deal for him as he is a Jeju Native. And a possible collab between Vernon and DJ Khaled? We’re proud of all the boys!

    12th Mini Album

So we got our first teaser of the upcoming 12th mini-album, pictures, and the album name! Pledis first tweeted the 12th mini-album teaser, and we were shown a subway with the words “I Felt Helpless” as the standout. We can also see the words, labeled from one to three, “SEVENTEEN,” “HELPLESS,” and “BLUE” on a sign in the subway, with “M12,” “1014,” and “1800” right beside them. If you’ve been here long, you know everything in a teaser is a clue, so we know most, if not all, of the words are important.

Soon after that, we got the teaser pictures where all 13 guys are basically floating or submerged under the water, and honestly, just from these first pics, we know they’re gonna eat up the concept. And now, onto the most important part. Drumroll, please! The upcoming mini-album will be called Spill The Feels. From that name alone, we know we will most definitely also be in our own feels. We also got the title track, which is called ‘Speak Up,’ its release date, which is 10.14.24, as well as the teaser, which you can watch below!

You can pre-order and pre-save the album here. We can also expect these songs to be performed at their upcoming U.S. Tour; you can get more info about that from our coverage here.

Carats, we all know when an album is around the corner, we should expect more news and announcements leading up to it. So keep your eyes peeled and ears open, and we’ll do the same!
