Two people died after being trapped in a garage during a house fire in Burleson early Sunday, officials said.
Firefighters responded to a structure fire about 12:30 a.m. in the 600 block of NW Douglas Street, Burleson Fire Department said in a social media post.
When firefighters arrived they observed heavy fire and smoke with flames coming through the roof. Firefighters began attacking the fire and searched the home in case anyone was inside, officials said.
More than 20 fire units from Burleson, Crowley, Fort Worth and CareFlite Ground EMS responded to the house fire, officials said.
The Crowley firefighters and a Burleson medic crew deployed a secondary fire attack line, officials said.
During the initial search of the living room, firefighters didn’t find anyone. Later, they two people were found trapped in the garage, officials said.
Both victims were pulled out and taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition where they later died, officials said.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s office will release the identity of the victims after next of kin have been notified.
The fire has been fully extinguished, and no other homes were damaged, officials said.
“Our deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers are with the families, neighbors and all who have been impacted by this tragic event,” the fire department said in the post.
The Burleson Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire with assistance from the Tarrant County Arson Task Force and Burleson police, officials said.
