KYT Launches Designer Bags for Diabetics

    [ad_1]

KYT redefining diabetes by designing an innovative bag range that merges medicine and fashion.

Diabetics now have their own designer bags to streamline their daily treatment. KYT, which stands for Keeping You Together, has revealed three new contemporary, premium bags purpose-built for the everyday needs of people with diabetes – a chronic condition that the World Health Organization (WHO) says affects 422 million people worldwide.

Crafted with the insights of hundreds of diabetics from around the world, the bags have innovative features, smart layouts, premium materials like gold-rated Italian leather and solid brass hardware, and ethical craftsmanship. A contemporary exterior discreetly hides diabetes supplies like a testing kit, pump consumables, and insulin pens. The bags now available for global pre-order are:

SideKYT: a contemporary crossbody bag that streamlines users’ essential diabetes supplies. The bag splits in two: life essentials up front and diabetes equipment out back. A testing station allows blood glucose levels to be tested straight from the bag.

SideKYT+: a larger crossbody built for pump users or those who want to take more equipment or spares.

StarterKYT: a compact case that lets users take their supplies on the sly. The size of a sunglasses case, it smartly locks together with magnets, unfolds completely flat to create a testing station, and then folds back together in a snap.

KYT is also committed to ethical production and materials, and a donation from every bag sold helps diabetes charities get crucial supplies to those in need.

At age 20, Designer & KYT Founder Bridget Scanlan was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. As her pancreas stopped producing insulin, she had to learn to manage multiple blood glucose tests and insulin injections every day. Along with all the equipment that came with it.

“From talking to diabetics around the world, I got universal insights into the daily diabetes struggle,” Scanlan says. “It sparked a thought: could smarter design empower people to feel better about dealing with daily treatment? I wanted to redesign diabetes so we could all redefine it.”

Combining her background in fashion design and entrepreneurship, Scanlan was inspired to channel her chronic condition to help empower other diabetics by creating designer bags specifically for diabetics.

“Every zip, every angle, every equipment detail has been influenced by the insights gathered from the hundreds of incredible diabetics who have opened up and shared their diabetes stories (and gripes) with me,” Scanlan says.

According to WHO, globally 8.5% of adults aged 18 and older have diabetes, making it one of the most prevalent chronic conditions worldwide.

Stanford University research estimates that people managing diabetes make around 180 extra health-related decisions every day to keep themselves safe.

Here is some of the feedback from diabetics using KYT’s original Crossbody bag:

“I’ve been waiting 50 years for a bag like this….it is so easy to ‘keep me together.’ Pick it up and off I go, and no one knows what I am having to carry around.” – Joy, New Zealand Diabetic

“I am loving my KYT for travel! It’s such a great bag, I now take it with me whenever I go away.” – Megan, London Diabetic

“Cannot be more excited for this amazing bag designed for diabetics. Fully functional & more importantly so stylish!” – Kyoko, Tokyo Diabetic

The 14 Best Places to Buy Secondhand Bags (Without Getting Scammed)

    [ad_1]

The only thing better than investing in the best designer handbags is finding one at a discounted price. But, easier said than done. Luxury brands like Fendi or Louis Vuitton typically do not mark down products (in order to control brand image and value), and you’ll rarely find a Chanel bag on clearance anywhere in-store. If you aren’t quite ready to take the financial leap on that brand-new Prada Re-Edition you’ve been eyeing for months, try shopping secondhand. This may seem like an obvious, sustainable solution, but the task itself can be daunting.

Whether you’re looking to try out one of the trendiest handbags of the season or want to add a timeless staple to your arsenal, the fear of being scammed is real. “Super fakes” or “triple-A fakes” are almost indistinguishable from authentic luxury goods, and even a pair of trained eyes can be confused by the quality. As scary as that sounds, there are ways to shop smart. We spoke to experts in the field to help navigate the search for your dream bag, including where to shop and helpful tips on how to avoid being duped.

First things first, do your homework

“Researching is the key to making a successful secondhand purchase,” says Charles Gorra, CEO and founder of resale platform Rebag. “If you don’t have dozens of tabs open on your web browser, then it’s possible you haven’t done enough research.” He suggests checking blogs and forums for peer-to-peer reviews and cross-comparing resale sites to ensure prices are legit. Remember the age-old adage: If it seems too good to be true—i.e. the bag costs way below its resale market value—it probably is.

    Buy from reputable sellers

The best types of sellers tend to have detailed descriptions of the bag with plenty of information, plus a variety of photos showcasing it at different angles. Gorra suggests looking for “sellers that are responsive and willing to give more information.” You’re looking for complete transparency from the seller because they should have nothing to hide. Sasha Skoda, head of The RealReal’s women’s department, agrees. “If you’re investing in a luxury handbag, you want to be positive you’re buying from a legitimate source that authenticates bags and has an authenticity guarantee,” she says. “Make sure you’re clear on the site or seller’s return policy, so you know what your options are if something is off.”

Know the value of your bag

“You will get back a substantial ROI for a luxury brand, compared to an aspirational luxury brand,” says Gorra. Chanel’s flap bags and Hermès Birkins are classic handbag styles because their superior quality makes them outlast others. Skoda shares the same sentiment, noting, “Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Hermès, Prada, and Goyard are some of [The RealReal’s] most popular handbag designers—and that demand translates into strong resale value for consignors.”

When it comes to contemporary labels, you’re likely to get more bang for your buck. “If you’re hunting for a great deal, consider a style that speaks to you but is from a few seasons back (like the Loewe Puzzle Bag or The Row Hunting Bag) or bags from more emerging designers—we love Staud and Cult Gaia,” says Skoda.

The last option is going vintage. With brands like Dior dipping into the archives for inspiration and reissuing iconic shapes like the Saddle, “the participation of brands in ‘vintage revival’ has resulted in the popularization of the original vintage pieces, thus increasing their resale value within the market,” says Gorra. You’re still on-trend because what’s old is always new again, but at a fraction of the cost.

Now that you’ve had a quick 101 lesson on shopping secondhand, use your newfound knowledge to shop the 14 reputable sites below.

Studio Auckland Proudly Presents the Pop the Cork Collection of Handmade Designer Bags

    [ad_1]

The Collection features Vegan Cork Leather and is being released simultaneously with the launch of the new retail website

    Press Release

    updated: Jun 12, 2018

Vegans and non-vegans alike will be delighted with the on-trend sophistication of the new collection of handbags and accessories handmade by artisan Patty Andersen, designer and owner of the Los Angeles-based company, Studio Auckland. The Pop the Cork Collection is being released simultaneously with the launch of her new retail website.

Launching on June 13, 2018, the collection proudly features an eco-friendly vegan material known as cork leather and comprises a unique selection of individually handcrafted bags, clutches, wallets, coin purses and eyeglass cases. A stylishly designed satchel handbag, cross-body bag and wristlet clutch complete the ten-piece collection. The collection will be exclusively sold on the website StudioAuckland.com where the limited products are expected to sell out by the end of the season.

Studio Auckland’s catchy slogan, ‘Carry Your World’ refers to both the concept of sharing the human responsibility of supporting the creatures on this planet by using renewable vegan materials in place of animal leather, and also the idea of physically holding the items one generally carries in a bag. The slogan also refers to the emotional role that many women lovingly carry as mothers, friends, caregivers, and active supporters of the environment.

    Patty Andersen, Artisan

Vegan Cork is a highly sustainable and renewable plant material used in handcrafted products such as the designer bags in the new collection by Studio Auckland. Cork is the natural bark of the cork oak trees, which are native to western Mediterranean countries such as Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal.

With no harm to the tree, cork bark is harvested by skilled craftsmen. The bark regenerates itself ready to be harvested again every seven to nine years. One of the most appealing features of cork leather is the fact that, as a natural plant product, it is 100% vegan and can be used in place of animal leather, thereby respecting animal life and helping to sustain thriving ecologies on earth.

Because of her use of animal-friendly material in her products, Patty has been granted the use of the PETA-Approved Vegan logo for her Studio Auckland site.

“Studio Auckland’s catchy slogan, ‘Carry Your World’ refers to both the concept of sharing the human responsibility of supporting the creatures on this planet by using renewable vegan materials in place of animal leather, and also the idea of physically holding the items one generally carries in a bag. The slogan also refers to the emotional role that many women lovingly carry as mothers, friends, caregivers, and active supporters of the environment,” says Patty Andersen.

As a clever reference to another popular use of cork, each piece in the Pop the Cork Collection has been given a specific varietal designation. The ten-piece Pop the Cork Collection ranges in price from $12 to $275 and is comprised of:
    ·         Merlot Mini Wallet
    ·         Zinfandel Coin Pouch
    ·         Chianti Eyeglass Case
    ·         Pinot Noir Handhold Clutch
    ·         Cabernet Two-Zip Wristlet
    ·         Chardonnay Three-Zip Cross Body Tote
    ·         Rosé Boxy Cross Body Handbag
    ·         Malbec Envelope Clutch
    ·         Syrah Satchel Handbag
    ·         Chain Straps in two lengths
