    Before Robert Pattinson donned the cowl in 2022’s The Batman, it was revealed director Matt Reeves and Sopranos’ Terrence Winter were working on a TV spinoff focused on Gotham City’s police department. Over time, the show seemingly evolved to focus on mainstay Batman location Arkham Asylum, but news on it has been nonexistent for two years. Now, it seems like that show may not make it to fruition–or at least, not in the form it was originally pitched to the public.

    Per Variety, the series won’t be going forward over at Max, or at least the one conceived by Antonio Campos. He signed on for the series back in 2022, months after its Arkham pivot was revealed. The outlet acknowledged that while this version of the show has been rejected, there’s a chance that a different series focused on the Asylum or Gotham’s finest could emerge in the aftermath. Regarless, it’s been a tumultuous road for this show: it was originally conceived as being set a year prior to The Batman. Months later, Winter left the project, after which Giri/Haji creator Joe Barton stepped in.

    After James Gunn and Peter Safran were inducted as the new DC Films heads, Gunn said the Arkham show would be set in the same universe as the upcoming movies, rather than the world of The Batman. Presumably, that’ll still hold true if a new version of the series ever crops up. Reeves’ isolated Batman-verse won’t be bereft of TV, though: a spinoff focused on Colin Farrell’s scene stealer Penguin will headline his own titular series, which The Hollywood Reporter claims will begin airing on September 8. Mr. Battinson will return to the silver screen with The Batman Part II (again directed by Reeves), with a current release date of October 2, 2026.

    Viewers who have been enjoying the animated adaptation of DC Comics’ storyline Crisis on Infinite Earths are anxious to know when Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three will arrive.

    Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One was released on January 9, marking the eighth installment in DC’s Tomorrowverse. Over the years, DC has built up quite a collection of animated films, which comprise multiple universes and continuities. The Tomorrorverse is one of the newest continuities, as it is the successor to the old DC Animated Universe (DCAMU). The new universe was established in 2020 with Superman: Man of the Tomorrow. Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths was quite an exciting addition to the shared universe as it marked a major crossover event, with Monitor (Jonathan Adams) recruiting heroes across the multiverse to combat a major threat.

    The sequel, Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Two, premiered on April 23, 2024. It follows the heroes as they begin to question Monitor’s past and are confronted by an extremely powerful army of shadow demons. Now, viewers are awaiting the final part of the major crossover film.

    When does Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three come out?

    Unfortunately, Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three does not yet have an official release date. However, it is confirmed it will be released sometime in 2024. There was a gap of about three months between the first two films. If the latest film follows the pattern of the previous two, it could arrive as early as August 2024.

    In addition to concluding the multiversal adventure, there are a few other reasons the movie is so important to fans. Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three includes the final performance of Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman. Conroy first voiced Batman in Batman: The Animated Series in 1992 and would reprise the role dozens of times throughout his career, bringing the Caped Crusader to life across multiple DC universes. He recorded his part for Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three before his passing in 2022, and the movie’s release is likely to serve as a touching tribute to the legendary voice actor.

    Additionally, the film will also include Mark Hamill’s final performance as The Joker. Hamill has been voicing the Joker since 1992 and has come to be considered as one of the character’s best actors. However, he recently announced he was retiring from the role. As such, Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part Three will close out the careers of two iconic figures in DC’s animated world, as well as wrap up the latest animated crossover event. Fortunately, viewers can rest assured that the movie should be arriving in just a few months.

    Since 2014, Russell Dauterman has been an artist mainstay of Marvel comics, and one of the best working at the publisher today. From working with Jason Aaron to tell the story of Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor to giving stylish looks to the X-Men for their annual Hellfire Galas (RIP), his work has consistently been pretty damn good, and it’s now being collected into a whole book you can have on your shelf.

    Earlier in the week, BacketKit announced an upcoming Kickstarter campaign for The Marvel Art of Russell Dauterman. The 216-page hardcover will collect the past decade of his work, including covers (regular and variant), interiors and design work—from X-Men to Scarlet Witch and Thor, he says the book will include “as much as I can.” For those who are fans of his costume variant covers, he confirmed all of those would be featured, including one for Thor that hasn’t been seen before now. The book will also include commentary from Dauterman himself and other extras he says will feature “some things a few of you have asked for! I’ve been working on this for awhile,” he added, “[and I] eally hope you enjoy it!”

    Dauterman first came into comics in 2011 with The Mis-Adventures of Adam West (written by Darren G. Davis, Reed Lackey, and West himself) and Annie Automatic (Sam Scott). After a brief stint with Boom! and DC Comics, he started at Marvel with Greg Rucka’s short Cyclops run before going to Aaron’s Thor book, and the rest is history. Since going to Marvel, his art has always been eyecatching, and the publisher knows it; his contributions have consistently been featured on outlets like The View and Entertainment Weekly.

    The Marvel Art of Russell Dauterman Kickstarteer will begin soon—April 23 or 24, if the countdown math is right—and more details about what’s included in it and when it’s arriving—will be revealed in the coming weeks.

    Michael Rosenbaum, who played Lex Luthor in Smallville, is opening up about the idea he has for a sequel series in an animated form.

    In a new interview, Rosenbaum revealed he and Tom Welling were developing an animated series with the original cast and creators of the show that originated in 2001 on the now-defunct WB network.

    “All I could share is that it’s a great idea. We have Al [Gough] and Miles [Millar], the creators of Smallville, backing us up,” Rosenbaum said in an interview with Screen Rant. “When it’s the right time, we’d like to go and do this: pitch to Warner Bros. It has to be the right time, and right now is not the right time.”

    He continued, “We had the strike, we had a change of executives at DC — one being one of my best friends in the world, James Gunn. When the time’s right, I think it’s something that’s a no-brainer unless they have other ideas. We’d like to do it — the whole cast would like to do it.”

    Rosenbaum noted that he has “a concept of what the show is” and said the whole cast of Smallville “would voice their own character from the show.”

    Smallville ran for a total of 10 seasons — five on The WB and another five on The CW. The series starred Welling as Clark Kent, Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lang, and Rosenbaum as Lex Luthor. Other cast members included Eric Johnson, Sam Jones III, Allison Mack, Annette O’Toole, John Schneider, John Glover, Jensen Ackles, Erica Durance, Justin Hartley, and Callum Blue, among many others.

    As the revamped DC Universe takes shape under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s leadership, it was decided to end the Superman & Lois television series after four seasons. The decision was made to not compete with the live-action film Gunn is working on with David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, which is scheduled to open in theaters on July 11, 2025.

    The Flash has been a disaster for DC and Warner Bros. The Ezra Miller-led superhero film is securing a record as one of the biggest box office flops in the business. There are a lot of factors that led us to that point, but Warner Bros. attempts to get any money out of the film before the DC cinematic universe reboots once more have reached a new low: the blockchain.

    Warner Bros. Digital Collectibles, the company’s official NFT/Web3 branch, posted today that it’s rolling out The Flash Web3 Movie Experience, which is the first “new” movie to be released on WB’s blockchain nonsense service after it released similar “experiences’’ for older films like The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and the 1978 Superman film. The limited edition Flash experience includes weird interactive environments you can swipe around on your phone based on locations from the movie, as well as digital collectibles like cards and models. Packaged into the whole deal is a digital copy of the film, access to bonus features, and all the normal shit you’d expect from buying a movie through a digital service.

    None of these things are inherently objectionable, but when it’s all tied into a manufactured scarcity based on a market that has already come and gone, it reeks of desperation to get any return on a movie that has bombed in the usual markets.

    There are a lot of reasons for The Flash taking a nosedive. On top of Miller’s frequent controversies and actual crimes, DC has already announced it’s rebooting its film universe again under The Suicide Squad developer James Gunn, and is still releasing a movie in a defunct continuity. It also sounds like the movie is just not that spectacular, and fans have had a pretty good live-action Flash series for almost a decade. I think we’re just good on the scarlet speedster these days, and given everything else, people just didn’t show up. And I’d be very, very surprised if a Web3 experience changes that.

    It’s a bird…. It’s a plane…. It’s another Superman. Deadline reports that Warner Bros. and DC Studios have found their next Clark Kent and Lois Lane in David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, who are set to star in James Gunn’s forthcoming reboot of the superhero franchise, Superman: Legacy. 

    The pair was reportedly chosen after an exhaustive months-long search, which included multiple rounds of audition tapes and culminated in an in-person screen test for Gunn, who’s writing and directing the film, and co-CEO of DC Studios, Peter Safran. Other actors who reportedly made it to the final round of screen tests—which took place over two days and involved full costume and makeup—included Nicholas Hoult and Tom Brittney for Clark Kent and Emma Mackey and Phoebe Dynevor for Lois Lane. At the end of the day, Gunn and Safran went with Corenswet and Brosnahan.

    Gunn confirmed Corenswet and Brosnahan’s casting in a tweet. “Accurate!” he wrote. “They are not only both incredible actors, but also wonderful people.” Last year, Gunn announced that he was penning a new Superman script about Clark Kent’s younger days. Shortly after Gunn’s announcement, Henry Cavill, who played Superman in three Zack Snyder films between 2013 and 2021, announced that he would no longer be donning the red cape. “The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that,” Cavill wrote in an Instagram post. “James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.” 

    Superman: Legacy will mark the first major leading role in a studio film for Corenswet, who has starred in television shows including Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood and The Politician, and more recently, in the indie film Pearl opposite Mia Goth. Brosnahan recently wrapped up her Emmy-winning turn as Midge Maisel on Amazon Prime’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel after five seasons, and is currently starring on Broadway in The Sign in Sidney Brustein’s Window with Oscar Isaac.

    Other major roles, including Superman’s archnemesis, Lex Luthor, and Kent’s friend, Jimmy Olsen, have yet to be cast. Per Deadline, Superman: Legacy will follow Superman’s quest “to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas.” Superman: Legacy is expected to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.

    “The Flash” is a flop. “Black Adam” was a bust. And does anyone remember “Shazam: Fury of the Gods”?

    DC Studios needs more than a hero, it needs a new strategy – something different than even its recently established reboot plan.

    DC and its parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, have Marvel Cinematic Universe envy. It’s easy to see why. The MCU’s movies, including ones that haven’t been released by Disney, have grossed about $30 billion worldwide since 2008. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has directed DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran to create their own shared universe involving iconic characters like Batman and Superman.

    The problem is, Warner Bros. and DC are already working through the tail end of a previous – and failed – attempt to tie their characters together through multiple films and shows. At the movies, DC’s Justice League just can’t measure up against Marvel’s Avengers.

    The likely answer to Warner Bros. and DC’s issues is right in front of them, though: Character-specific franchises that adhere to one filmmaker’s vision, not a TV-style writers room. Basically, let your heroes fly solo.

    It’s worked for DC properties before, even recently.

    Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, which wrapped in 2012, was a well-reviewed box office juggernaut. And even though they were both connected to the prior attempt at creating a DC movie universe, 2017’s “Wonder Woman” and 2018’s “Aquaman” focused mainly on their title characters and racked up big bucks and accolades in the process.

    To put an even finer point on it, look no further than the financial and critical success of Todd Phillips’ “Joker” and Matt Reeves’ “The Batman.” Neither movie is connected to an extended universe.

    “Joker,” released in 2019, grossed more than $1 billion worldwide despite being rated R, while racking up a best actor Oscar for star Joaquin Phoenix. Last year’s “The Batman,” starring Robert Pattinson as an early-career Caped Crusader, garnered around $750 million globally. Sequels to both movies are in the works.

    But so is “Batman: The Brave and the Bold,” from “Flash” director Andy Muschietti. It will not star Pattinson and will instead serve as “the introduction of the DCU Batman,” according to Gunn. How many different Batmen does an already-superhero-saturated moviegoing audience need? Especially after “The Flash,” which featured four different Dark Knights from previous movies and shows.

    Fun vs. homework

    Comic books were once a refuge from homework. Now, to keep up with everything going on in Disney’s MCU and Sony’s Spider-Verse, which is also connected to the MCU, you need to have watched pretty much everything that came before to get up to speed. That’s dozens of movies and shows, going back to the original Robert Downey Jr. “Iron Man.”

    “The Flash,” meanwhile, might be the most intense comic book movie pop quiz, even though DC’s cinematic universe has been all over the place. It’s jam-packed with cameos (some real, some CGI-generated) from past DC movies and shows, going all the way back to George Reeves’ black-and-white Superman.

    But in order to understand all the gags, you have to be really into this stuff. Unless you’re a big fan of “Clerks” director Kevin Smith – big enough of a fan to have watched his standup specials, that is – a “Flash” sequence involving a Nicolas Cage version of Superman fighting a giant spider might be lost on you. The movie’s punchline, involving George Clooney returning to the role of Bruce Wayne 26 years after the badly received “Batman and Robin,” is clearly geared toward Gen-Xers and older Millennials, not today’s younger audiences.

    Even the MCU model has tripped up at times. Disney CEO Bob Iger himself has suggested that the studio was going to the well too often with certain characters, after the fourth Thor film and third Ant-Man installment underwhelmed at the box office. That should be another warning sign for DC Studios.

    For his part, DC’s Gunn recently acknowledged that there are “too many” superhero movies and shows. If anyone can come up with a creative way to change course, it’s him.

    After working with schlock factory Troma Films early on, Gunn built a sturdy Hollywood career as a writer and director, alternating between R-rated flicks like “Slither” and stuff for general audiences, like his Guardians of the Galaxy movies for Marvel and Disney. The third entry in that series snapped the MCU out of its mini funk. It’s so far the second-highest-grossing movie of 2023, behind Universal’s “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.”

    And he already has a couple DC works on his resume: the 2020 movie “The Suicide Squad” and its 2022 companion series, “Peacemaker,” both of which won wide acclaim.

    Gunn is writing and directing “Superman: Legacy,” due in 2025. It’s intended to usher in the new DC shared universe. But there’s still time for him to reconsider his approach and let the Man of Steel – and all the other DC heroes – be super on their own.

    If Warner Bros. Discovery needed additional reassurance concerning their decision to restart their slate of DC Comics-branded films, they got it this weekend with the superhero super-flop Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

    The sequel to the successful 2019 picture performed miserably at the domestic box office, grossing just $30 million according to The Hollywood Reporter, short of the already modest projections. The industry trade outlet noted that this is “one of the worst starts for a major Hollywood superhero film, as well as one of the worst for a title in the DC Cinematic Universe, including those released during the pandemic.”

    By-and-large critics didn’t take to the picture. Vulture called it “uninspired swill, undone largely by the fact that it’s following up a superior first movie”—and that was one of the more positive notices! (The New York Post wondered if movie lovers needed to start a GoFundMe for Helen Mirren, presumably so she’ll stop agreeing to appear in projects like this.) 

    The Shazam! property is one that’s always been a head-scratcher. The character was originally created as Captain Marvel in 1939 by Fawcett Comics and was hit with a copyright lawsuit soon thereafter by DC, as they felt he was too similar to Superman. Then DC acquired the rights, but further legal troubles came due to confusion in the marketplace from Marvel Comics and their own Captain Marvel. (Remember that other Captain Marvel? The one starring Brie Larson?) Anyway, it’s complicated—especially when other people wonder what it has to do with the 1996 Shaquille O’Neal film Kazaam, or the late-60s Hanna-Barbera cartoon Shazaan. (Answer: nothing.)

    You’d think all this would make for a satisfactory amount of red flags, but the first picture, in which Zachary Levi played a “grown-up” version of a teen gifted with the powers of the ancients (when he speaks the charmed, titular phrase), was actually breezy and fun. This is apparently not the case in the follow-up, as exiting audience members speaking to CinemaScore awarded the film a B+. A B+ doesn’t sound too bad, but compare that to the original’s A, and also keep in mind that as a general rule ticket-buyers tend to gobble-up comic book movies.

    Some might argue the project is a little cursed, and some of it probably isn’t the movie’s fault. Rarely is there such a public re-alignment of a franchise as there’s been with the DC Comics titles. (You’ll recall the whole “Release The Snyder Cut!” fan movement.) Shazam! 2, despite being produced by current DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran, is among the last of the “old guard”’s DC movies. The slate will be wiped clean (except for pocked universe Bat-films) when The Flash comes this summer and uses the power of the Speed Force to split open the multiverse. As such, the project has been a bit of a punching bag, as you can see in this clip between John Oliver and Seth Meyers

    Ben Affleck, historically a fun person to witness being a celebrity, got candid about his life and career, including his “worst experience” from the latter, in a new cover story for The Hollywood Reporter. 

    Throughout the interview, Affleck colorfully sounded off on various topics, including his “world-class Boston finesse” for parallel parking, his “red velvet rope celebrity Wordle group,” why he thinks of golf as the sports version of meth, and how he actually “had a good time at the Grammys,” thank you very much. 

    But he became particularly impassioned when speaking about taking on the role of Batman, saying that participating in DC Comics films “became somewhat repetitive to me and less interesting” to him across the several movies in which he appeared. “And by the way, I like a lot of the stuff we did, especially the first one [Batman v Superman],” Affleck said. 

    Perhaps not surprisingly, it was 2017’s infamously difficult Justice League that soured him on the experience. “You could teach a seminar on all the reasons why this is how not to do it. Ranging from production to bad decisions to horrible personal tragedy, and just ending with the most monstrous taste in my mouth,” Affleck said of the production, which brought in Joss Whedon to direct after original director Zack Snyder’s daughter died by suicide in 2017. 

    The Oscar winner, who has previously shared his misgivings about playing the Caped Crusader, subsequently bowed out of directing his own Batman film. “[Justice League] made me go, ‘I’m out. I never want to do any of this again. I’m not suited,’” Affleck said. “That was the worst experience I’ve ever seen in a business which is full of some shitty experiences. It broke my heart.”

    The whole thing was so punishing, Affleck explained, that he “started to drink too much,” adding, “I was back at the hotel in London, it was either that or jump out the window. And I just thought, This isn’t the life I want. My kids aren’t here. I’m miserable. You want to go to work and find something interesting to hang on to, rather than just wearing a rubber suit, and most of it you’re just standing against the computer screen going, ‘If this nuclear waste gets loose, we’ll…’ That’s fine. I don’t condescend to that or put it down, but I got to a point where I found it creatively not satisfying.”

    Affleck did, however, suit up once more to play the character in The Flash, which stars Ezra Miller and hits theaters in June. “I did finally figure out how to play that character [Batman], and I nailed it in The Flash,” Affleck said. “For the five minutes I’m there, it’s really great.” But don’t bet on him to save the day on any future projects. “I would not direct something for the [James] Gunn DC. Absolutely not,” the actor said when asked by The Hollywood Reporter. “I have nothing against James Gunn. Nice guy, sure he’s going to do a great job. I just wouldn’t want to go in and direct in the way they’re doing that.”

    When Marvel Comics artist Danny Bulanadi died last month, fans around the world took to social media to share his illustrations of well-known and well-muscled characters including Captain America, the Fantastic Four and the Transformers.

    But in Canada’s easternmost province, the Bulanadi drawings shared by fans were of a mysterious cloaked figure who sought oneness with the universe instead of fist-slinging battles.

    Captain Newfoundland was the province’s very own superhero, first brought to life by Bulanadi more than 40 years ago. When Bulanadi died in San Francisco on Nov. 3 at the age of 76, he was working on new Captain Newfoundland material for the first time in decades, said Jesse Stirling, whose father and grandfather came up with the idea for Captain Newfoundland.

    “So we have all these half-finished panels and artwork of Captain Newfoundland, which we might release one day,” Stirling said in a recent interview. “The Captain lives on, but it will never be the same without Danny Bulanadi.”

    Edmonton comic book illustrator recruited for Marvel’s Indigenous artist series

    Captain Newfoundland made his debut on the cover of the Newfoundland Herald magazine on Jan. 5, 1980. He was drawn towering in front of a sprawling purple galaxy, with planets and asteroids floating beneath his billowing blue cape. A glowing outline of the island of Newfoundland lit up his masked face.

    “Captain Newfoundland: our very own superhero,” the headline pronounced.

    Stirling said his father, Scott Stirling, and his grandfather, the late media mogul and mystic Geoff Stirling, dreamt up Captain Newfoundland in 1979 after returning from a meditation trip to an ashram in India.

    “(They) were probably drinking some orange juice, they might have been fasting for a while, doing some yoga, meditating, and they decided to come up with a superhero that was not your typical superhero,” Jesse Stirling said. “It was more to teach lessons of peace and cosmic oneness.”

    Geoff Stirling founded the Newfoundland Herald — then the Sunday Herald — in 1946, three years before Newfoundland joined Canada. He also launched several radio stations as well as the province’s first television station, now called NTV.

    Viewers became acquainted with Stirling’s spiritual leanings in the 1970s when NTV began broadcasting 24 hours a day. He filled the overnight hours with spiralling discussions about politics, crop circles and consciousness, often interspersed with pulsating animations. Shortly after Captain Newfoundland first appeared in the Herald, an actor playing the superhero showed up on NTV’s overnight landscape.

    “I’m sure many people will remember the trippy Captain Newfoundland specials, where they had segments on UFOs and ESP and Atlantis, mixed in with music videos from Paul McCartney and Queen,” Stirling said. “Back then it was literally someone in a cape and a fencing mask.”

    Captain Newfoundland was an ancient, intergalactic shape-shifter who could teleport through time and space to become one with the universe. He took on several forms, among them Captain Atlantis. In the comics, Newfoundland is the tip of the mythical kingdom of Atlantis.

    Jesse Stirling said his father interviewed dozens of illustrators before choosing Bulanadi to bring the captain to life. Bulanadi had worked on DC Comics’ Conan and Batman series, and his artistry stood out.

    “He was so proud of his Filipino culture,” Stirling said of Bulanadi, who became a close family friend. “He was a spiritual guy, a really open guy.” In a tribute to Bulanadi on its website, Marvel said he also loved performing Filipino love songs. The artist died of congestive heart failure, Marvel said, extending condolences to his “fans all over the world.”

    Reprints of the Captain Newfoundland comics ran in the back of the Herald until the magazine ceased publication in September. By the end of its run of more than 75 years, the magazine was available in some of the province’s most far-flung communities, ensuring the captain’s mantra — “to thine own self be true” — echoed far and wide.

    The Captain Newfoundland ethos was fairly radical in a province that, at the time, was still largely under the control of Christian churches, says St. John’s journalist Rhea Rollmann.

    “It was this breath of fresh air against everything that was coming down in the denominational education system,” she said. “It injected these different cultural, spiritual ideas that we weren’t getting anywhere else.”

    Rollmann, who is transgender, said she can still remember reading the comics in her family kitchen while in elementary school in the 1980s.

    “I remember a panel where Captain Newfoundland was showing all the different forms through which he existed, male and female incarnations,” she said. “That idea of gender fluidity which was represented, it really resonated for someone who was growing up trans and didn’t have the words or framework — there was no education about it at the time.”

    Jesse Stirling admits he was teased at school when Captain Newfoundland first emerged. His classmates thought superheroes should have impressive fighting moves, rather than a penchant for discussing metaphysics, he said.

    But lately, there’s a renewed interest in the captain. Copies are selling quickly of Captain Atlantis, a new collection of all the Captain Newfoundland comic strips printed on glossy paper in full colour. Stirling and his father are hoping to finally make a Captain Newfoundland movie, and possibly a video game, he said.

    And of course, they hope to release new Captain Newfoundland comics, even though the superhero’s original illustrator is gone.

    “It’s a real tragedy,” Stirling said of Bulanadi’s death, adding: “He had a lot of great work left in him.”

    Black Adam collected a healthy Rs. 6.5 cr nett at the Indian Box Office, on its first ticketing day, that is on 20th October, 2022. The film emerged as the fifth biggest Hollywood opener in India for the year of 2022, behind Dr. Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, Thor: Love And Thunder, Jurrasic World: Dominion and The Batman. The collections of Black Adam were pretty good considering that it was a mid-week Thursday release in the country. To top that, Dwayne Johnson does enjoy a good box office pull in India, more than most Hollywood actors outside franchise films. 

    On Friday, Black Adam went down by around 20-25 percent, as it collected between Rs. 4.80 cr and Rs. 5.30 cr nett. The numbers went down on expected lines as most Hollywood films do drop a little on Day 2, unless it is a Saturday, where most of the collection happens. It also lost significant amount of screens down south, with films like Sardar and Prince releasing this Friday. Black Adam of course doesn’t have numbers like a Marvel film does in India, but at the moment, Marvel is no competition either, as no other franchise, universe or IP is as established as Marvel is. 

    The two day total of Black Adam is around Rs. 11.5 crore nett and the film may see its biggest ticketing day tomorrow, that is on Saturday since most Holllywood films have healthy footfalls coming on Saturday. Sunday and Monday will be hit hard by India vs Pakistan T20 Worldcup match and Laxmi Pooja Day. Tuesday onwards, the Hindi Diwali releases Thank God and Ram Setu will take over the reigns. In short, Black Adam is facing way too much competition in its theatrical run. The film will be targetting a number around the Rs. 40 cr nett mark and it should be a decently good result for the film, considering a much bigger film like The Batman didn’t do much more than that, either, in India. And unlike Black Adam, The Batman had quite a smooth release with no real local competition.

    Dwayne Johnson is dancing around spoilers about DC’s upcoming superhero film “Black Adam.”

    Leading up to the film’s release, reports have hinted that Henry Cavill’s Superman, a character that Johnson has wanted to see Black Adam fight on-screen for a long time, will appear in the highly-anticipated project.

    At a film screening in New York on Wednesday, Entertainment Tonight noted that the “cat was out of the bag” before asking Johnson how involved he was in Cavill’s return to the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

    “Here’s what I can tell you,” the action star replied, seemingly tiptoeing around his words. “I can tell you that the whole goal and initiative of ‘Black Adam’ was to build out the DC Universe by introducing not only Black Adam, but the entire JSA… and also, as I have been saying all along, there’s an ethos that we at Seven Bucks [Productions] have… and that is, we always put the fans first.”

    The Justice Society of America (JSA) is a team of superheroes published by DC Comics, including Doctor Fate, Hourman, The Spectre, Sandman, Atom, The Flash, Green Lantern and Hawkman.

    Johnson then hinted that he expects Cavill to appear in the DCEU again. “We’ve established Black Adam as the most powerful and unstoppable force on our planet,” he said. “But the fans have been so passionate about, as we have been, ‘Where is the most unstoppable force in the universe? Where is he?’ Well, we’ve all been fighting for this moment, so I will say this: Welcome home.”

    Although details about Cavill’s appearance remain unclear, Johnson hasn’t been shy about promising an eventual crossover and face-off between the two brawny characters.

    Earlier this month, when asked if Black Adam and Superman will ever clash on film, Johnson told Cinema Blend: “Absolutely. That is the whole point of this. There’s a new era in the DC universe that’s about to begin.”

    According to Comic Book Resources, Black Adam and Superman have fought multiple times in the comics.

    Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (“Orphan”), “Black Adam” also stars Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Sarah Shahi as Isis, Marwan Kenzari as Sabbac, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate.

    In August, Johnson discussed his plans for expanding the DC Extended Universe, sharing that their main objective is “to really expand the universe, and introduce new characters, and spin-off, and be really strategic about the plan.”

    Johnson continued, “We have a few ideas of what characters people are really going to respond to in ‘Black Adam,’ and so we’re already thinking ahead to: ‘Let’s start thinking about that movie, and what that movie looks like for them.’”

    “Black Adam” opens in theaters on Oct. 21.
