  • The Best 2024 Jeans Recommendations, Straight From Our Editors

The Best 2024 Jeans Recommendations, Straight From Our Editors

Take this from somebody who has owned and currently owns far too many pairs of jeans—the best ones are obtained through word of mouth. There’s really no other way. So when new styles drop that aren’t already beloved by everyone in the fashion community and beyond (including but not limited to Levi’s 501s and Agolde’s Pinch Waist silhouette), they really need to be tested, worn, washed, worn again, and finally, talked about—a lot.

With 2024 wardrobes being conceptualized and built as we speak, I thought I’d get the ball rolling on next year’s must-buy denim by skipping a step in the process. By that, I mean that rather than waiting for the best jeans recommendations to make their way to me, I sought them out. But I didn’t ask just anyone. Instead, I called on the shoppers I trust most, my fellow Who What Wear editors, who, between them all, have probably tested out every pair of jeans on the market at any given time. And as always, they came through. Scroll down to shop the 2024 Zagat guide to denim.

  • *The* Fashion Collab of 2023 Is Here—9 Items I’m Buying Before It’s Too Late

*The* Fashion Collab of 2023 Is Here—9 Items I’m Buying Before It’s Too Late

If I’ve learned anything in my six years as a fashion editor, it’s just how much those in the industry lust over a good collaboration—emphasis on the word good. The concept of two brands coming together is nothing new, and in and of itself, nothing exciting. But when one partnership comes along that checks of every box—it feels authentic, there’s a reason it exists apart from that it can, and the clothes are chic—it stops everyone in their tracks. And then, it sends them scrambling to for their wallets.

Such is exactly what happened when, midway through August, Banana Republic—a brand that’s having a moment all on its own—announced an upcoming team-up with one of New York City’s buzziest design talents, Peter Do. Do, who’s namesake label has become one of the New York fashion scene’s favorites for timeless yet modern and cool wardrobe staples, is on the rise, with a new title as Helmut Lang’s creative director and Paris Fashion Week now added to his resume. But back then, you couldn’t buy it, and had no idea what the clothes would look like. That’s no longer the case now, though.

Almost two months after the word got out about the forthcoming line, Do’s Paris show doubled as a debut for a handful of the collaboration’s pieces, stirring up significant buzz. And this week, after everyone in fashion (myself included) had made their wishlist from the runway, all 36 items from the collection—ranging from basics like tanks, trousers, and button-down shirts to statement outerwear—are available to purchase. Well, most of them. Some have already sold out. Scroll down to shop the collaboration of the year before it’s too late.

  • I Just Did a Fall Banana Republic Haul—These 10 Pieces Were By Far My Favorites

I Just Did a Fall Banana Republic Haul—These 10 Pieces Were By Far My Favorites

Welcome to The Great Try-On. We’re gearing up for fall, and that includes freshening up our wardrobes with some new pieces. We got to try on some of the best fall pieces from some of your favorite brands and documented it all from our own personal “dressing rooms” so that you can see how they actually look IRL. We hope that our photos and candid reviews will help you shop for fall wardrobe builders and trend-forward pieces that you’ll wear over and over this season and beyond.

Banana Republic, once thought of as the mall brand from yesteryear, has made a comeback, and the fashion crowd can’t get enough. Ever since Banana Republic’s recent rebrand, I have been shocked and impressed with the pieces it has been putting out. Think elevated, high-quality, timeless, expensive-looking pieces that don’t actually break the bank. If you like to look rich, then this brand is for you. I’m seeing so many pieces that could pass as Theory or The Row. I have been singing the praises of Banana Republic all summer long and have decided now that fall has arrived, it’s time for me to get my hands on some of the pieces I have been ogling for months now. I did a fall haul and fell fully in love with 10 fall pieces that I quite literally can’t stop talking about.

  • Banana Republic Is Amazing Right Now, and This Riley Keough Look Is So Chic

Banana Republic Is Amazing Right Now, and This Riley Keough Look Is So Chic

I recently shared my adoration for Banana Republic. It’s one of those special retailers that I’ve shopped at for years, and I’m turning to even more right now because the latest collections have been so strong. The brand also recently debuted a full home collection (amazing) and just opened its first stand-alone store dedicated to home on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles.

Celebs gathered to celebrate the opening of the new BR Home store in stylish Banana Republic ensembles. And yes, Riley Keough happened to be one of the A-listers in question. To celebrate the event, she wore a minimalist yet striking Banana Republic ensemble featuring a polo sweater (under $100) and coordinating trousers. The whole silhouette perfectly encompasses that low-key-luxury vibe.

The Category Is Timelessness: 30 Banana Republic Arrivals I’d Never Part With

Most Wanted is a weekly series in which one Who What Wear team member or friend of the brand will share the top 30 fashion and beauty finds on their current wish list.

This weekend, while taking a break from online shopping for work, I decided to do some in-person shopping for some much-needed fall inspiration. Sure, it was 90° with a dew point of one million, but my excitement for cashmere couldn’t be stopped. One glance at the window displays at Banana Republic on 5th Avenue, and I knew my September budget was toast. Its fall collection is what anti-trend dreams are made of: a plethora of cashmere, herringbone everything, and brown suede accessories. After perusing this jackpot of fall essentials, I knew I needed to share my findings. If you’re in the market for high-quality, luxe fall staples with an approachable price point, I’ve got every item you need below. Keep scrolling to shop my current favorites from the collection.

I’ve shopped at both of these stores for years, and I’ve been turning to them more and more recently because the new collections have been so strong. On that note, I thought I’d pull out a few pieces from each that I love and that I think you’ll love as well.

  • Fall 2023 Fashion Outlook

    Fall 2023 Fashion Outlook

One of my favorite things to do every night before bed is fill my online cart with tons of clothes. Call me delusional or a dreamer, but I love to think about what I would buy in an ideal world. Spending all this time window shopping also helps me figure out what’s trending, and what styles might be surging into popularity soon.

I’ve always been the type of person who emphasizes the importance of a bomb outfit. Nothing impacts my confidence like what fit I’m rocking. It’s my duty to serve.

With New York Fashion Week in full swing, the streets of the city are flooded with luxury-clad off-duty models showing us the ropes. Fashion Weeks are a good indicator of what everyone else will be wearing soon enough.

The stylish cohorts walking the streets of FW are already sporting future trends – like when everyone was wearing the MSCHF Big Red Boots around. Before you know it, we’ll be ditching our linen sets and fluorescent colors for whatever Bella Hadid is wearing. It’s a never ending rollercoaster, but we prevail.

Fall fashion 2023 will have elements of the familiar, plus a few dark horses. There will be pieces that look like an old friend to you, buried deep in your closet from when they were last trending, and pieces that will soon flood fashion store floors in mass quantities.

If you’re feeling a little lost shopping for those fall fits, here’s what I’ve found:

  • To Be Honest, These Timeless Silhouettes Are the Only Trends We’re Into RN

To Be Honest, These Timeless Silhouettes Are the Only Trends We’re Into RN

In the age of internet fashion, we’re walking the finest line between trendy and timeless. Traditionally, these two categories are the opposite of one another, but they’ve been working hand in hand this season. (Opposites attract, and all that.) Timeless staples have become the buzzy trends to invest in, which might feel wrong to say, but the results are oh so right. Our associate editor, Yusra Siddiqui, is living proof. Using pieces from Banana Republic, she put together two looks that fall perfectly into this season’s “trendy-timeless” category—inspired by The Fall Issue. Here’s how to follow her lead: Instead of investing in a neutral suit, opt for this season’s hottest color trend. (Ahem, it’s red.) Or when reaching for a maxi dress, go bolder with a metallic print and ample accessories. Bottom line? This season, we aren’t afraid to wear bright colors or mix metals, but we’re doing it in a classic way with pieces that will live in our wardrobes forever. Keep scrolling to shop Yusra’s fall looks.

  • Banana Republic’s Sale Selection Can’t Be Beat Right Now—Shop Our Picks

Banana Republic’s Sale Selection Can’t Be Beat Right Now—Shop Our Picks

Confession: For editors, sale shopping is basically an Olympic sport. We train daily, scrolling through page after page of new-in items at an array of online retailers, and must be able to quickly determine what to buy on the spot and what to save in our carts for another day.

While many of our peers have the “purchase with one click” option down to a science, we much prefer the thrill of the hunt. That’s why we always make a point of checking out Banana Republic ahead of summer’s arrival with a plan to stock up on shirts, dresses, and accessories for the season ahead. Currently, BR is offering up to 40% off of sale styles online. So even though we’re supposed to be preparing to do a closet purge ahead of the new season, we couldn’t help but pick out a few pieces to add to our summer wardrobes, especially at these prices.

Keep scrolling for 14 must-have items to shop from Banana Republic’s current sale selection, including pieces to wear now and a few to save for fall. We showed some restraint, but believe us—there’s plenty more in store, and some sizes are going fast!

  • This $65 H&M Dress Is a Dead Ringer for Meghan Markle’s Sold-Out Version

This $65 H&M Dress Is a Dead Ringer for Meghan Markle’s Sold-Out Version

Whether you’re in the public eye or not, there’s something to be said for having a recognizable signature style. Whether your style is broadly defined as classic, sporty, or bohemian, or super specific combinations like ankle-length dresses with boots or high-waist jeans with boxy tees, there’s a lot of value in knowing what makes you look and feel your best.

Long before she was one of the most recognizable faces around the world, Meghan Markle honed her personal style, focusing on modern interpretations of traditional silhouettes. And, while her wardrobe ranges from casual to custom, there is a particular style that stands out as quintessentially Meg: the trench coat dress.

The duchess has worn several trench-inspired dresses, but the public first took notice of them when she stepped out in a sleeveless midi-length design by House of Nonie in 2018. In subsequent years, Markle has been photographed wearing this style of dress from brands as accessible as Banana Republic to designer labels like Wales Bonner, which she chose to wear for baby Archie’s debut.

While Banana Republic’s version is currently sold out, this classic design can be found at an array of retailers and price points. As springtime and sunshine call for shorter hemlines and lightweight fabrics, we’re excited to step into H&M’s linen version of the sleeveless belted style. But, if that’s not the right fit, there are plenty of affordable trench-inspired dresses to try on at Zara, Mango, and even Uniqlo, not to mention a few pricer designer versions.

Keep scrolling for 10 of our favorite Markle-inspired trench coat dresses, and prepare to suit up in style this season.

  • I’ve Shopped at Banana Republic for Over 15 Years—29 New Items That Are So Chic

I’ve Shopped at Banana Republic for Over 15 Years—29 New Items That Are So Chic

There are a few key retailers that have been go-to’s for me for years—I’m talking 15-plus years, here. Honestly, maybe even 20. J.Crew and Nordstrom are two of those stores, but yes, so is Banana Republic. Whenever I went to my local mall as a teenager and in my 20s, Banana Republic was stop one. I used to wait anxiously for the Black Friday sale, in particular, when I could score my new wardrobe staples at serious discounts. While it’s been a minute since I’ve been in a store, I recently started scrolling through the site to look for trending picks to recommend across my stories. I discovered so many chic items that I just had to tell you about. My colleague (pictured above) also recently shared her favorite Banana Republic picks, which are fantastic.

Below you’ll uncover my edit of the best Banana Republic items to buy for spring and summer. You’ll notice quite a range of items. There’s everything from elegant tailoring silhouettes that could be dressed up or down to pretty dresses for any upcoming parties to sleek footwear styles like beautiful strappy sandals. • I Stopped By Gap, J.Crew, and Banana Republic—19 Finds That Genuinely Shocked Me

I Stopped By Gap, J.Crew, and Banana Republic—19 Finds That Genuinely Shocked Me

Welcome to Let’s Get a Room, a series where editor Eliza Huber heads to the dressing room to try on pieces from your favorite retailers, buzzy items, and new collections. Think of this column as a detailed guide to the pieces that are actually worth buying and the ones that, unfortunately, looked better online—no returns necessary.

The best part about living in New York City (no, I’m not going to say the bagels, but I’m sure that’s of significant value for many of the city’s residents) is the proximity to practically every brand under the sun’s brick-and-mortar stores. I like shopping online just as much as the next fashion person. Hell, I even made a career out of it. But nothing beats walking into a physical store, picking up what calls out to you, and trying it on. Even the purchase process is supreme (minus the lines, especially in SoHo).

As such, when I decided to do a story surrounding Gap, Banana Republic, and J.Crew—three brands I haven’t, in the past, given tons of attention to—I couldn’t resist going into their actual store locations and going full-on with an entire dressing-room movie montage. Luckily, all three were but a few blocks away from each other on Fifth Avenue, making the idea of an in-person shopping trip all the more enticing. Two hours and 19 items later, I walked to my dinner plans nearby knowing everything I wanted from the trio of retailers and a camera roll of pictures to prove it.

Below, see which items I fell the hardest for at J.Crew, Gap, and Banana Republic.

  • 2023 Spring Fashion Trends Before TikTok Tells You

2023 Spring Fashion Trends Before TikTok Tells You

Spring is approaching! Next time you look up it’ll be all April showers bringing May flowers. As I type this article, it’s a balmy 60 degrees outside. Practically Bermuda-esque weather for New York.

And while it may snow next week, this weather has me looking forward to those cute outfits I can debut in the spring. 2022 winter fashion brought us apres-ski chic and lace detailing, but I’m anticipating some big changes in the fashion world as the weather warms up. People are feeling risky…I can tell.

The weather is getting warmer and jeans are getting tighter. Don’t panic, we aren’t diving into the deep end and bringing back skinny jeans or jeggings. It’s all about a straight leg or minimal bootcut flare.

Multiple Fashion Weeks have come and gone, and I have a good picture of what retailers are about to push out in stores soon. 2023 spring fashion trends include heavy denim and satin-style cargo pants. With an emphasis on casual comfort and pants with lots of pockets, spring 2023 fashion will look very familiar.

If you’re looking to catch the spring trends a little early this year, look no further. I’ve scoured every page of Vogue and every paparazzi shot of off-duty models like Hailey Bieber and Emily Ratajkowski. And I’ve most definitely kept up with the Kardashians, our ever-present trend dictators.

    An Excessive Amount Of Pockets

    Nina Agdal

    Shutterstock

Whether it be a pair of cargo pants or a mini-skirt, anticipate the cargo-style pocket to be sewn on. We are focusing on Y2K style again, as always. All different types of cargo pants like satin will be on trend.

Pair your cargo pants with a cropped baby tee for the ultimate Y2K resurgence. We want enough pockets that you could arguably fit multiple phones and wallets at once.

    90’s Style Strapless Tops

    Reformation Clothing

We all know and love the strapless top, but the 90’s style involves a looser top. They pair well with the ever-so-highly debated low-rise jeans, which are still trending. It’s a bit more flowy and forgiving than a tight top, so I’m a fan.

This type of top reminds me of the early 2000’s red carpet style. Tuck it into high waisted jeans for a tucked in look that’s perfect for spring weather.

Full Denim Fits & Skinnier Jeans

Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake may have been the founders of the full denim fit, but it looks like we’re bringing it back this spring. Denim strapless tops, denim accents, everything is all denim. You’ll also see less of the baggy style jeans and more fitted, straight leg styles.

These Levi’s are perfect for this spring’s hottest pair of denim, and if you’re looking for a fun denim addition to your closet, try this top.

    Lingerie-Inspired Detailing

    Billie Eilish

    AFF-USA/Shutterstock

We’re back to playing the “is-it-lingerie-or-is-it-acceptable-to-wear-in-public” game. Think all lace bodysuits and mesh everything. Slip dresses with lace applique and deep v cuts will be the star of the show.

If you have to question whether you bought it in the underwear section of the store, you’re probably right on trend. Lingerie-inspired clothing is back and if you want a more understated look, throw on an oversized blazer and tailored menswear style pants.

    Quilted Jackets

Street Style, Spring Summer 2021, Milan Fashion Week, Italy

    Cornel Cristian Petrus/Shutterstock

Vogue says if you have one jacket this spring, make it a quilted one. And since our fashion Bible says a shell coat can be the perfect transitional weather piece, we must listen. The quilted jacket has been worn by Gigi Hadid, and can be layered on top of your favorite sweater.

This quilted jacket by ASOS is my favorite piece in this article. As someone who was a big fan of the shacket, the quilted jacket is a more elevated approach on a spring favorite.

    Silks & Satins

I’ve seen a bunch of silk cargo pants online when browsing, but that’s not all. We’re bringing back the low-rise silk maxi skirt that’s reminiscent of every beach commercial ever. It’s an essential piece for a brunch outfit or the transitional weather we’ll be experiencing.

    I like this
satin mini for weekends out on the town with a moto jacket (also a spring favorite), and this silk maxi for a bottomless mimosa brunch with friends.

Banana Republic Is in Its Cool-Girl Era: 28 Pieces Currently in My Cart

Just like the rest of the Gen Z fashion crowd, TikTok is my go-to source for all things trends and style. Sure, I get inspiration from the runways and my favorite celebrities, but the real magic happens on the clock app. This month’s conversation the teens are partaking in? Banana Republic, the glossy retailer associated with the mid-2000s, is back, and frankly, much better than it’s ever been.

Over the last few years, brands our mothers used to shop at have made a surprising comeback amongst millennials and Gen Z. Take J. Crew and Puma, whose recent appointments of younger, trendier female CEOs have injected their respective brands with some good ‘ol saccharine energy, revitalizing labels who haven’t seen this much buzz in years. Banana Republic is the latest re-emerging retailer to enter the mix, with edgy, Western-inspired flares and styles that will convert any cool girl. If everyone’s favorite horse girl Kendall Jenner is on your mood board, Banana Republic has you covered. Only time will tell how much footing Banana Republic is going to gain over the next few months, but based on the number of items sold out this month already, I wouldn’t be surprised if it continues to take off for the rest of the year.

Below, shop all of the best Banana Republic pieces I did while on a deep-dive of the site’s new offerings and best-sellers section. Happy shopping!

I Saved a Ton of Outfit Ideas This Year—These 8 Are the Ones I Actually Tried

Despite my best efforts, I am a 34928-tabs-open-at-all-times kinda gal. The alternative might mean banishing any fun finds to purgatory, i.e. my “favorites” (yeah, right) folder. The risk of that seven-layer chocolate cake recipe, DIY hair mask, and article about the health benefits of a nightly glass of red wine (important!) never seeing the light of day again is too high.

My Instagram saves are a different story. Here, there is a method to my madness. Call me Dame Dewey Decimal. I found most of my wedding vendors, brush up on my French, and discover new beauty hacks via long scrolling sessions.

Having all this inspiration at my fingertips has also helped break me out of a closet rut. I’ve been guilty of “hating everything in my closet” more times than I can count, when I’m really just a reconfiguration or single item away from a whole new vibe. Scroll along for the ‘fits that caught my eye—and that you’ll hopefully be inspired to test-drive in the New Year. (You know the saying—new year, new…)

J.Crew, Abercrombie, and Banana Republic Are Cool Again—See My Current Wish List

J.Crew, Banana Republic, and Abercrombie becoming the favored shopping destinations of the fashion set certainly weren’t on my 2022 bingo card. But as always, the industry always likes to keep me on my toes. I can’t scroll through TikTok and Instagram without seeing an influencer, editor, or just an average consumer posting about their latest purchase from one of the three. And with every post I see, I become increasingly impressed. Our team has even gone the lengths of testing various pieces from the retailers and has given nothing but high praises for the fit and quality.

Out of both professional and personal curiosity, I went through every single page on each site and ended up with a thorough fall wish list. Everything below is not only on-trend but is also basic enough to be worn for years. Last but not least, all the pieces look triple the price. If you don’t believe me, keep scrolling and see for yourself. (And be prepared to click “add to cart” along the way.)
