RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) — WakeMed has issued new restrictions on visitors as we enter the heart of respiratory illness season.
Beginning today, children younger than 12 will not be allowed to visit patients in WakeMed hospital units, patient care areas, and waiting rooms.
The restrictions will take effect at all WakeMed facilities.
Officials say the move will help reduce the spread of respiratory illnesses like flu and RSV.
The announcement comes after North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reported the first child to die from complications of influenza for the 2025-2026 season.
