The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office says a robbery was reported at a Taco Bell in Fair Oaks.
FAIR OAKS, Calif. — A man suspected of robbing a Taco Bell was detained after an hours-long standoff Friday at a Sacramento County neighborhood.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said a robbery was reported after 4p.m. Friday at a Taco Bell on the 4300 block of Sunrise Boulevard. Officials said the caller had been robbed at gunpoint.
Within 10 minutes, deputies found the suspected vehicle and attempted to pull it over. The accused man reportedly led deputies on a chase and crashed in front of a house on the 4300 block of Edison Avenue and ran away from the scene.
After the crash, deputies set up a perimeter at a nearby neighborhood on the 4300 block of Rio Tinto Way in the Arden-Arcade area. Deputies believe the man was inside a home in the area.
Nearby residents were being evacuated from their homes or told to stay inside and lock their doors.
Officials said the man was found under a deck at a home on the 3800 block of Robie Lee Way and was detained peacefully.
Deputies identified the suspect as Donald Caviness.
A firearm allegedly used in the robbery was recovered in a nearby backyard, the sheriff’s office said.
Due to the search of the suspect, the San Juan Unified School District issued a precautionary shelter-in-place order for four schools: Whitney Avenue Elementary, Pasadena Avenue Elementary, Arcade Middle and Mira Loma High.
After school activities were moved indoors and students were able to be picked up by their parents. Mira Loma High is playing its football game on the road Friday night against Delta High in Clarksburg.
The shelter-in-place order was in effect until law enforcement activity was cleared, the district said.
