Serviced accommodation provider Synergy Global Housing has
committed to joining the Science Based Targets initiative in becoming carbon
neutral by 2030, the company announced Tuesday.

The commitment will “align Synergy and SBTi as they
collaborate to develop a clearly defined roadmap aimed at reducing greenhouse
gas emissions,” the company said.

According to the company’s statement, SBTi is a partnership
that “promotes best practice in emissions reductions in line with net-zero
targets” comprised of nonprofit CDP, World Resources Institute, the World Wide
Fund for Nature and the United Nations Global Compact.

As part of the partnership and in order to achieve
accreditation, Synergy must develop an official emissions reduction target in
line with SBTi’s criteria, present its target to the SBTi for official
validation, announce its targets to its stakeholders and report on its company-wide
emissions annually, according to Synergy. The company did not give a date by
which it would submit its plan.

Other travel-related companies that have committed to SBTi or
made similar pledges include Marriott
International
, American
Express
, Accor, BCD Travel, CWT, Hilton Hotels Worldwide, Hyatt Hotels
Corp., IHG Hotels & Resorts and Meliá Hotels International.
