SWAT respond to barricade situation in Commerce City after reported shots fired

DENVER (KDVR) — Police, SWAT operators and negotiators are in a Commerce City neighborhood after occupants barricaded themselves inside a residence following a call about shots fired.

The Commerce City Police Department said they first responded to a call about shots being fired in a residence before 9 a.m. Just before 9 a.m., police said officers were in the 5300 block of 63rd Place, where occupants have been “non-compliant” with orders to exit and have barricaded inside the residence.

SWAT operators and negotiators are on scene in the area, a few blocks to the west of Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

The department said residents should avoid the area or stay inside if they live nearby.

FOX31’s Courtney Fromm is on scene, where authorities said over the speaker multiple times that they have a warrant for their arrest, and are asking a suspect to leave the house with their hands up. Authorities said they have a K-9 and will release it into the house.

Around 10:38 a.m., Fromm reported that police were shooting at the windows with what appeared to be smoke or tear gas.

This is a developing story. FOX31 will update this post when more information becomes available.
