Suspect surrenders after shooting down drone in Arden-Arcade standoff

The sheriff’s office said the suspect fired several times while shooting the drone, with some of them hitting neighboring homes.

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — A suspect shot down a drone while holed up in an Arden-Arcade home Wednesday morning, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said the incident started along the 2000 block of Kincaid Way after a reported disturbance between two neighbors. Deputies said the two had a separate argument weeks earlier where one of them pointed a gun at the other.

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident was investigated but the victim declined to pursue charges at the time.

When deputies arrived at the area on Wednesday, the suspect refused to come out. After repeated PA announcements, deputies aid he briefly left the home with a rifle before going back inside. The sheriff’s office’s SWAT and negotiators responded, while also deploying armored vehicles, drones, the Rook and other “military equipment.”

During the incident, the suspect shot down a sheriff’s office drone. Deputies said he fired several shots, with some rounds hitting neighboring homes and a window across the street. No injuries were reported and deputies didn’t fire back.

One of the homes hit was sheltering in place at the time, but all the others were evacuated, the sheriff’s office said.

He eventually surrendered and was taken into custody. He’s expected to be book into the county jail on multiple felony charges.
