Suspect runs away after stealing car in Springfield with children inside

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Two children were found unharmed after a car they were in was stolen in Springfield Monday night.

Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh states that at approximately 8:00 p.m. on Monday, officers were sent to the 400 block of Sumner Avenue for a report of a kidnapping. Police say that the victim’s car was left running while they went to pick up food.

A thief stole the car and drove off however, they parked the car around the block when they realized children were inside. The two children were found unharmed inside the car on Kenwood Terrace.

The suspect has not been located at this time. The Springfield Police Department Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.
