Ernie’s General Store and Deli has lowered its gas prices as travelers hit the road for Thanksgiving.
STOCKTON, Calif. — A Stockton gas owner is lowering prices at the pump as travelers hit the road for Thanksgiving.
In the spirit of the holiday, Ernie’s General Store and Deli has lowered its cash price for regular gas to $3.59. The price is 40 cents lower per gallon as a way to thank loyal customers ahead of the holidays.
The station made the switch just after noon on Monday and is expected to keep the lower price through Thanksgiving.
The price drop has become an annual tradition for the locally owned station along Waterloo Road, just east of Highway 99. Last year, owner Ernie Giannecchini lowered the price of gas to $3.49 — a full dollar cheaper than the corporate stations across the street.
As of Monday, California’s average gas price was $4.60, the highest in the nation, according to AAA.
AAA expects a record 82 million Americans to travel at least 50 miles from home during the Thanksgiving holiday period, from Tuesday through Monday.
