The singular CHD-4 was developed in collaboration with Teenage Engineering and Love Hultén.

Steve Angello‘s new one-of-a-kind drum machine raises awareness of a very special cause.

The CHD-4 drum machine was created in collaboration with the renowned Swedish audio tech company Teenage Engineering and artist Love Hultén. With a striking white and red color scheme, you may think it’s just an aesthetically pleasing instrument. But the message behind it is profound.

The sounds of the unique drum machine were transcribed by real electrocardiograms (ECGs) of four children with congenital heart disease in an effort to raise awareness of the birth defect, which causes irregular heart arrhythmias in babies. The sounds of their heartbeats were loaded into the device as a chilling yet poignant tribute to those suffering from the condition.

Angello, the Swedish House Mafia star, purchased the drum machine at auction and took to social media to share the news. Proceeds from the €3,526 sale benefitted the Swedish Heartchild Foundation, which supports children with congenital heart disease.

The drum machine’s name derives from the denomination of the condition (CHD) and the number of children whose ECGs were transcribed. You can learn more about the CHD-4 here.
