DENVER (KDVR) — The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is sending text and email notifications to families whose children may be due for “routine” vaccines, with back-to-school season in full swing.
The reminders are being sent to families of more than 470,000 children aged 7 through 18 years old whose records in the Colorado Immunization Information System show their child or children may be due for vaccines, including ones required for K-12 schools, the agency said Wednesday.
CDPHE said the text messages will come from a 45778 number, while the emails will come from cdphe.vaccine.registry@state.co.us.
Parents who want to find a vaccine provider near them can do so online. The agency said most health insurance plans — including Medicaid and CHP+ — cover the cost of routine childhood vaccines, and that free and low-cost vaccines can be obtained at nearly 600 vaccine providers around the state.
The agency notes in its messages that parents and guardians can exempt their child or children from school-required vaccines.
Immunization records for both children and adults can be accessed online from the Colorado Immunization Information System self-serve portal.
