WHEELING, Ill. (WGN) — A police standoff in northwest suburban Wheeling has been resolved without incident, after officers responding to reports of an armed man located a shooting victim inside an area hotel.

Video from the Citizen App showed a massive law enforcement presence outside the Mainstay Suites on Capitol Drive, including armored vehicles and SWAT units. Just before 11:30 a.m. Thursday, officers responded to the 800 block of Capitol Drive.

Police found a man in the hotel lobby suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, according to authorities. His condition remains stabilized at Glenbrook Hospital.

Responding officers from Wheeling and neighboring jurisdictions quickly secured the hotel to ensure the safety of guests and staff, police added.

Officers recovered a gun at the scene. Nearby schools were also placed on lockdown as officers canvassed the area.

Wheeling police say that despite their investigation remaining active, officers are not seeking additional suspects. No ongoing threat to the public remains, according to authorities.

Police did not address whether criminal charges were forthcoming.
