A member of Senator Rand Paul’s staff was stabbed multiple times in Washington, D.C. over the weekend and sustained what police describe as “life-threatening” injuries.

A statement from the Kentucky Republican described the attack as ‘brutal.’

“This past weekend a member of my staff was brutally attacked in broad daylight in Washington, D.C.,” Paul said.

“I ask you to join Kelley and me in praying for a speedy and complete recovery, and thanking the first responders, hospital staff, and police for their diligent actions.”

The statement goes on to note that the suspect has been arrested.

Rand Paul Staffer Stabbed

In a news release, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) confirmed that a suspect had been arrested in the attack and indicated the individual had been charged with Assault with Intent to Kill (Knife).

The attack took place less than 1.5 miles from the United States Capitol according to the police statement, and the staffer had sustained “life-threatening injuries.”

“At this time we would ask for privacy so everyone can focus on healing and recovery,” Paul said in his statement.

He’ll no doubt get his wish, since the media will have no interest in promoting a story about violence against a Republican or crime in a deep, deep-blue city like Washington, D.C.

As of publication, there has been no indication of motive or any inkling that the attack was politically motivated in any way. The Hill describes Paul’s staffer as a “target,” but a target of what has yet to be determined.

Rand Paul Attacked by Neighbor, Mob

While details remain sketchy at this time, Senator Rand Paul himself is no stranger to political violence.

Paul and his wife were surrounded and attacked by what he described as a “crazed mob” just outside the White House following then-President Donald Trump’s acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC) in 2020.

Nerve-wracking video of the incident showed a crowd of protesters swarming the Senator and his wife, essentially chasing them back to their hotel. Paul had to be surrounded by police, with one officer in front defending him with a bicycle.

In 2017, Paul was physically assaulted by his neighbor, leaving him with a myriad of injuries including six broken ribs, pleural effusion, and, consequently, pneumonia which resulted in part of his lung being removed.

That incident allegedly stemmed from a landscaping dispute.

The Senator was also on the field during a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia that same year, when Bernie Sanders supporter James Hodgkinson carried out a mass assassination attempt on Republican lawmakers.

42-year-old Glynn Neal is identified as the assailant in the stabbing of the senator’s staffer.

Fox 5 DC reports that he had been released from prison the day before he stabbed Rand Paul’s staffer, following a 12-year sentence for forcing two North Carolina women to engage in prostitution through the use of threats.
