SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Springfield Police Firearms Investigation Unit (FIU), made a significant drug bust on Monday, April 15, seizing a kilogram of cocaine and a loaded firearm during an operation on the 500 block of Plainfield Street.

Acting on information received, detectives from the FIU apprehended two suspects, Emanuel Pizzaro and Idelberto Soto, believed to be in possession of a large quantity of cocaine.

The operation culminated in a traffic stop on Plainfield Street around 11:45 a.m., where Pizzaro, the driver, and Soto, his passenger, were detained without incident.

Following the seizure, Pizzaro and Soto were placed under arrest and face multiple charges related to drug trafficking and conspiracy. E

Emanuel Pizzaro, 34, and Idelberto Soto, 23, both residents of Springfield, are charged with trafficking in cocaine (200 grams or more) and conspiracy to violate drug laws. Additionally, Soto faces a charge of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

The Springfield Police Department commended the swift action of its officers and the collaborative efforts of the FIU and K-9 Unit in apprehending individuals involved in illegal drug activities.
