A new poll released just days ahead of Election Day in Virginia shows voters prefer Democrat Abigail Spanberger in the gubernatorial race.
RICHMOND, Va. — Democrat Abigail Spanberger holds an edge over Republican opponent Winsome Earle-Sears in the Virginia gubernatorial race, according to a new poll released just before early voting ends in the Commonwealth.
Virginia’s Election Day arrives in the midst of a fraught political climate nationwide. Other hotly contested high profile races in New York City and New Jersey will also be decided.
According to the poll released by Atlas, poll respondents said they would vote for Spanberger over Earle-Sears at a rate of 53.9 percent to 45.2 percent.
On Saturday, former President Barack Obama stumped for the former congresswoman in Norfolk.
In the attorney general race, Republican Jason Miyares (48.1 percent) outpaced Democrat Jay Jones (46.6 percent).
Jones’ campaign hit a stumbling block when scandalous text messages surfaced in which he appeared to fantasize about the violent death of a Republican opponent.
According to the Atlas poll, voters preferred Democrat Ghazala Hashmi (51.7 percent) over John Reid (45.6) in the race for the lieutenant government post.
Early voting increased substantially in Virginia in 2025. In 2021, 1,194,252 took advantage of early voting. This time around, 1,309,150 did (as of Nov. 2, 2025).
