Southwest Airlines has partnered with 4Air, an aviation sustainability company that provides consulting, documentation and rating services, to validate emissions reductions for corporations that participate in its sustainable aviation fuel program, currently in beta, the carrier announced this week.

The program enables eligible Southwest Business customers to purchase certain Scope 3 emissions reduction rights from the carrier’s use of SAF. With 4Air, Southwest will provide those customers with independently verified assurance for their Scope 3 emissions reduction calculations and documentation associated with their support toward Southwest’s use of SAF, according to the carrier.

The beta program launched about a year ago, with Deloitte, Siemens USA and Zurich North America as initial participants. The carrier expects to expand the program in 2023.
